The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown – H P Lovecraft
I love Lovecraft so much "The world is indeed comic, but the joke is on mankind." H. P. Lovecraft The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age. H.P. Lovecraft
Wise response. Fear can be a powerful motivator. And i agree, if fear arises its best to listen or be attentive to it rather than ignore it.
I will repeat my response.. The thread title asks if we let our fears DRIVE us, which is unhealthy. You and Eric are talking about letting fears GUIDE us.
Best way to conquer a fear is to stand up to it . Bullying for example . I just stand up to them like my next door neighbour and that drives me in knowing he isn't going to win. He has threatened me and my family with violence now 3 times and so far he hasn't laid a finger on me despite the threats . Police intervention hasn't stopped him but standing up to him has. Interesting thread
If you don’t have a gun, get one. Then target practice in your back yard and if you can’t target practice, then, dissemble, clean and lube your rifle, pistol, or shotgun (or all of them ) out in plain site where he can see you as he looks out the window. Practice some quickdraw techniques while you’re at it. That could cease a lot of the bullshit between you and your neighbor, especially if he knows you are prepared if things get out of hand.
I dont get how a lot of people have guns in the USA. People use knifes in Turkey. Gun isn't that common.
