The back ground checks should be national and standard, not by each state where racial groups are designated to fail by designed questions. I know that many red-necks who use meth and booze can report false information on the questionnaire but a Black man who had an arrest on his record for a single joint can be excluded. Today many people from Middle Eastern families can be put on a no-fly list and excluded from gun purchases just because some government administrator put their name on a computer data base. The national test should be extensive and standard and applicable to all racial/religious groups. The applicant should be interviewed and if rejected it should be in a written letter from the ATF so that the applicant could take it to a lawyer to be adjudicated in a court of law. The government should not be excluding certain groups in a secret manner while Red-Necks own semi-auto arsenals.
It's the nature of the beast. We have no draft and we are at war. It's hard to find 18 year olds to take this risk. So we take what we can get. The commercials say the few the proud or be all you can be, it's not really like that. They can't afford that kind of bar. The enlistment standards are way down now since 9/11 You don't even really need a high school diploma if a recruiter decides they like you and want to work with you. The military tries to police values contrary to what America is but a lot of low ranking and some high ranking solders are very racist. They love Hitler, they say ****** daily in the barracks. I've heard all these stores. What they often fail to do is get promotions which give them classified information. What they succeed at is getting training in guns and explosives since it's basic boot camp stuff. If you don't get discharged in 3 months you know all this. This is training beyond the average militia and these people join militias. What we count on is that those with security clearance know even more.
Yes they can, but should they? Studies show that people who own guns for self defense end up shooting themselves accidentally, accidentally shoot another family member, or a child gets hold of an unsecured gun and shoots a family member. And by definition, anyone who buys a weapon designed for the battle front is mentally ill. I am sure the people in the south can find other ways for father-son bonding. There's always NASCAR.
Car ownership seems to be a mental condition as well. They kill more people than guns. We should bring back horses and buggies, I can endure a 3 hour commute!
That's a silly argument. Since many things can kill let's allow the thing that only kills. Cars also have all sorts of insurance and licenses which guns don't have. Almost as if their risk means the owner must prove they can handle it and pay for the risk. Do you want gun insurance and a govement issued license? I do but I don't think you do. Does not really compare to gun logic. They want no restrictions since rights don't get those.
Actually, I think guns should be registered and ammunition should be serialized. When I say this aloud I catch hell from gun nuts who claim that I "want to take away their guns/rights" which is the really silly argument. I can't buy a gun without a background check, even at a gun show. But part of that is because I am not inclined to buy a used gun from a private seller. It would be just my luck to purchase one from some maniac and learn years later that it had been used in a series of murders. So I avoid that entirely. The only gun I keep these days is a revolver loaded with rat/snake shot and would not be lethal for anything larger than a possum. Ever since our neighbor lost their house to foreclosure and left a dozen cats behind a decade ago, I haven't fired it at all. It hasn't been necessary as we no longer have any rats, so the snakes left as well. And I admit the ridicule readily. Because I think it's silly to use a random maniac as the basis for removing any of our rights as Americans. Even modifying the Bill of Rights requires substantial support in Washington that is never likely to materialize. So all the wailing about the 2nd amendment every time there's a maniac episode is clearly not a concern about the people who were shot and are instead all about taking shots at American rights and attaching the "blame" to whichever politician one hates. It's a knee jerk response that I can't take seriously.
I get updates on my computer programs weekly. The mass shooting in El Paso was the 250th in 215 days. One would think Congressional members would be working on an update to the 2nd Amendment to prevent these white nationalists from killing people with guns.
Then I support you stepping outside gun norms. People bitch so change happens in Washington. The idea that it's too hard and too emotionally motivated is a lie gun owners need. Deep down each mass shooting scares the shit out of them. Is this the one? The best defense is two fold 1. I already have my gun so how can you take it? What of those who don't give it up? 2. It's too hard to change laws anyway so I guess we just can't Laws and amendments change all the time. We can drink now can't we, for a whole we could not. The gun owners always say it's disrespectful to discuss gun laws when people die. How else do we honor them? In the Marines if a unit dies you make a strategy so the next one does not die. Ultimately they show that the second amendment to them is a 100% selfish thing. Many will proudly they say don't care who dies as long as it's not them. Guns are just too important to care about that.
Counties that still have mandatory draft service have a mostly part time casual army. It's often not as formal or strict as America. It's what you do at 19 and your commanding officer is 21. You all just hang out since your population is 10 million, everyone likes you, and the Americans will help you if they do. I had a draft card. I think I threw it away the same day I got it. If there was a true war we can count on enlistment. A draft is needed for the Vietnam wars that people know are not for America.
That's just it though, we can't make blanket assumptions based entirely on gun ownership. After all, most gun owners don't kill anyone. Eliminating them won't stop murder or maniacs. I often hear the "if it saves just one life it's worth it" mantra after a tragic shooting. But I never hear this when an illegal alien kills someone. And yet, it's the same premise. If we take the politics out of this, especially the ghouls who instantly assign this sort of thing to Trump, who is really just the flavor of the day, the problem can be addressed honestly.
If we are talking illegals and Trump we say one death is enough for the whole thing to be bad. A common alt-right analogy with immigration is you have a bowl of candy. Almost all of it is good but one piece is poison. Would you eat that candy? Of course not it's too risky. So one gun owner killing someone means the whole culture is a risk right? We can't accpet any good guy he has bad guys with him and they all look the same. They will all say I'm not a drug dealer I am a refugee. I am a good owner not a bank robber. I do agree we can not punish all gun owners for ones choice. If we did address the gun culture murders are less. Bad guys have guns since it's so easy for a good guy to get one. You don't buy in private sales many do. They love the idea of privacy. it's my gun and I alone decide who gets it. This is why any criminal can buy a gun. Without a gun show all you need is one gun store owner who plays ball. Many of them will fudge their paper work or be lazy. They too think it's a personal privacy issue. You are not robbing me and I don't see your face on the news so have a gun. Why is it so hard to get a gun in Europe? There is a black market and people are shot but mostly it's high end criminals who can pay the price and risk the prison time. It's not worth it to shoot an average person unless they are involved in your crime. Chances are the gun was also smuggled from America or the former Soviot Union. America if you want a quality newer gun. We are the illegal gun culture. Where is weed without Colorado or the Netherlands? America is the place where you can have what is illegal for you.
The thing is that bullied teens going on shooting sprees isn't as common anymore. MAGA freaks have taken over where they left off. I'm sure the problem does run deeper, and I blame every single American, who prove day after day that they're just a bunch of rotten stinking assholes who think they're better than everyone else. I wouldn't say the average American adult deserves to be shot, but... Trump's egomania is just a signal to all of these stupid fucking assholes that they really shouldn't give a shit about anyone besides themselves. That's all Trump is...some douchebag who doesn't give one flying fuck about anybody but himself.
Only caring for yourself is extremely American. It's why we hate taxes that help others and the idea that someone is helped from our work if they are not working. Everyone is lazy but you.
