You should probably reread the information I've provided in my post. It is pretty clear what the financial impact incurred by illegal immigration.

I haven't noticed any negative impact from illegal immigrants on a personal level. I'm not even aware of who is legal and who isn't. But nobody from South or Central America is bugging me or stealing my job, or stealing my possessions, or physically hurting me, etc. etc. I haven't had a decrease in my income...nothing. It just hasn't affected me, and I doubt it has affected almost anyone. It's all just xenophobia.

Since others here seem to enjoy posting things over and over (regardless of the truth of it and regardless of providing links)...I want to say again...

People ARE NOT ILLEGAL. THINGS can be illegal.

People are UNDOCUMENTED.

Granted, going from illegal to (the correct term) undocumented may take the sting out of putting them down; but, that is the way it should be worded. Shockingly enough there are even some people in government that refer to undocumented (not illegal) workers or immigrants.

 

Unfortunately it creates opportunities for crooks to set up "colonias" in remote, rarely patrolled locations. Which means construction of shacks with no power or running water, financed for a decade or more to bilk the newly arrived who end up paying far more than the property is worth in the first year. If they do manage to reach the end of the term, they may find out the property is not owned by the finance company at all. This has happened on both sides of the border.

Your notion is interesting since they would essentially be moving to areas everyone has already evacuated for city opportunities. Which would make them colonists!

A useless distinction designed to illicit feelings above logic. Trying to control the language is rather effective sometimes. Look at how many terms have become offensive in just the last few months where they didn't raise an eyebrow for decades before.
