"Hard-liners inside and outside the Trump administration are pressing for the removal of President Donald Trump’s acting Homeland Security secretary amid a rolling leadership purge that began in April and shows no signs of ending, according to five people in the Trump administration and four former Department of Homeland Security officials.

Kevin McAleenan, who took over the post less than three months ago, is under heavy criticism from prominent Trump allies, including former Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Thomas Homan, who might become the administration’s immigration czar.

Following the purge of three other immigration officials since the April resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, McAleenan stands accused of disloyalty to the Trump White House’s hard line on immigration because of a perception that he didn’t support ICE raids targeting migrant families scheduled to begin last weekend."

 

Undersecretary Claire Grady was supposed to become the Secretary of Homeland security when Nielsen was forced out by Trump in April 2019. Trump then forced Grady out and installed McAleenan as Acting Secretary whose job now looks uncertain. Trump installed Pekoske as Deputy Secretary.

 

Trump has a persistent pattern of bypassing the legal norms for succession and installing the person he wants.

He did this with the Attorney General position which should have been filled by Rosenstein. Rosenstein resigned which allowed Trump to install William Barr. Rosenstein had met personally with Trump in a private meeting.

Rosenstein, who once seemed like someone who appealed to the rule of law, wrote a bizarre resignation letter praising Trump for reasons unknown.

"The Trump Organization, including the Washington property, also appears to have taken in a significant amount from at least 22 foreign governments, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Cyprus. Trump promised to donate any profits from foreign governments, and the Trump Organization has sent $343,000 to the U.S. Treasury for 2017 and 2018. However, the organization did not release underlying numbers to support that figure.

The questionable patronage by these outside governments is the subject of two pending federal lawsuits against the president for allegedly gaining from illegal foreign payments.

On Tuesday, a federal judge greenlighted a lawsuit filed by 200 congressional Democrats that alleges Trump’s financial interests in his properties violates an anti-corruption provision of the Constitution.

Another pending lawsuit, filed by the attorneys general of Maryland and the District of Columbia, argues that patrons' desire to use Trump International Hotel to curry favor with the president gives it an unfair advantage over competing businesses in Washington and Maryland."

 

The Supreme Court just ruled against Trump on the Census question. It is a rather big loss for Trump. I don't have the breakdown on how the votes went.

 

Beto said last night that he wanted the impeachment investigation against Trump to be run all the way and as far as it would lead. He also said that if Trump is not impeached, his own DOJ would prosecute Trump for a long list of serious crimes.

"In unusually sharp terms, Roberts criticized Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and the administration for essentially fabricating a case for the citizenship question, rejecting its claim in court that it was a solely a request of the Justice Department for help enforcing the Voting Rights Act.

"Altogether, the evidence tells a story that does not match the explanation the Secretary gave for his decision. In the Secretary’s telling, Commerce was simply acting on a routine data request from another agency. Yet the materials before us indicate that Commerce went to great lengths to elicit the request from DOJ (or any other willing agency)," Roberts wrote. "And unlike a typical case in which an agency may have both stated and unstated reasons for a decision, here the VRA enforcement rationale—the sole stated reason—seems to have been contrived. ""

 

Trump is now asking his 'only the best' staff if the 2020 census can be delayed so that his 'only the best' Wilbur Ross can have his way on the census.

 

Trump would have a difficult time building a coalition to wage the war against Iran that his 'only the best' non-serving chicken-hawk Bolton wants. Even his buddy Putin has to maintain close economic ties with Iran. Trump has trashed relations with what used to be close European allies, going so far as calling them 'foes'.

 

The Supreme Court declined to get involved in Gerrymandering cases. This means (1) Republican Drawn districts will stand until changed by Democrats. (2) There will be no legal grounds to stop Democrats from doing the same thing when they take a state. In other plain English words, American politics will remain "Septic Tank Style" for the next few years.

There is also a report which indicates the Democrats have caved in and funded Trump's & McConnel's immigration emergency bill which had started in the senate. I'm not clear on Border Wall money in that bill. It seems there was lots of money for HHS. It is a sign of weakness and Trump will surely claim it as a victory.
