I hope that's a viable option but if the screen has partly fallen off it will cost something. I also took notice of the option of buying secondhanded from a store that has erased, checked and if needed repaired the smartphone. It is said they're at least as reliable as a new unused one (after all they have already proven to work fine). These are in most instances 'old' phones from wealthier consumers that get a new one like every year :p

Anyone ever tell you you should get a job as an agony aunt?

  7. I took Chemistry at Uni.
I wouldn't worry about it at all....I was never that good at Math, and I had no problems.
Math in Chemistry is not problematic.
If you want details or examples, let me know.

    Q. What about measuring chemicals? :worried:

  9. What do you think might be problematic about it?

Actually doing it in lab...like quantitative analysis, titration and all that?
    Or converting from units?
The SI is based on the metric system, and you better get used to it.
Might be easier for us though, since we grew up with it, and used it all throughout elementary and high school education.

    You'll just need simple math
Converting units, calculating molality, molarity, volume....all that jazz.

Of course, if you fuck up stoichiometry and balancing the equation or mess up conversion....then the rest of it is going to be wrong.
But I think math is the most simple part of it all. It's high school level.

well, what I was looking at in this textbook talks about scientific notation. I guess what I worry about is what if I were to misunderstand a calculation and blow up the lab! Hopefully the chemicals will be benign or at least mostly benign.

I don't know what quantitative analysis or titration are, but what I think might be problematic is if the professor puts too much emphasis on the mathematics, we may end up making lots of errors, and therefore not learning correctly. I want to know my stuff! :)

  14. I really wouldn't worry about it.
You'll be supervised while you work, there's plenty of bitchy assistants making sure you don't fuck up ;)
It won't be just your professor there.
Plus your classmates....the environment is such that you are surrounded by people doing the same thing and you are rarely alone. Everyone is worrying and doing the same thing.
You won't be doing research and experiment on your own. There isn't time or space to do any of that.
If there are more dangerous concentrations or methods involved, you will be carefully watched for sure.
You don't even get to play with fire.

I was always more concerned with getting everything done on time. Because it's not just lab work - you need those results to do math and calculate stuff afterwards.
Then you gotta turn it in and worry if it gets accepted lol.
This is where people made most mistakes, not the actual lab work.

I once broke a test tube (pretty much everyone did....as we had to wash it all and clean after we were done, and most of the time you are rushing), and got some discoloration from nitric acid on my hand (it was gone within a few days), and that's pretty much it.

You know what was the worst?
It always lasted over three hours and we were never allowed to sit down.
Sometimes you wait for something for like thirty minutes, you forget the rule and you sit down, only to be yelled at. I hated that.
I hated that I was an adult getting yelled at.

Oh btw, you'll have to come prepared, and that also reduces your chances of fucking up. You'll know what you'll be using and how much of it.

It's gonna be fun, you'll like it all :)
It can get stressful and chaotic, but it's also very satisfying.

Hubby got a prescription for his blood pressure. It was 241/110 at the doctors.

He also got a prescription for an antibiotic for the place on his hip. The doc said it's infected. He will look at it again in 2 weeks after the course of antibiotics is finished.

Here are the other recommendations for chemistry preparation in that course for science-specific skills and physics/biology..

I chopped it up due to screen size

    but it's continuous.

Rule 1 in that sidebar link is
Make sure all chemical equations are balanced!

I expect you to be able to synthesize LSD by the end of the semester.

the problem with math in chemistry is i was never able to think like an alchemist.
i always kept wanting logic to be linear, if you get what i mean.

i know the universe is statistical and that's fine too.
well that was a lot of years ago,
maybe they've gotten around to teaching it in ways that make more sense,
but then, there's not much incentive that i know of to do so.

i should have just taken physics and geophysics instead,
but that does take more math then i was ever able to get inside me.

    or keep very long.
