Once Trump shuts down the Mexican border this week economist predict the U.S. auto industry will shut down next week.
You can't build cars without parts. All automakers rely on a "just in time" inventory system which would last about 1 week. We import $59.4 billion in parts from Mexico and export $32.5 billion.
Ford, GM, and Chrysler have all referred to this statement from Matt Blunt, president of the American Automotive Policy Council:
    Here's a 2019 Trumpmobile.

Another lie to add to the over 9000 he's already told. If he was Pinochio, he'd been carrying his nose around in a wheelbarrow!

That'd sure be nice if that were true!

This post sounds like an argument for private charities over government redistribution.

Well as with most things this is complex because there are different types of foreign aid some political other social and humanitarian.

In a US context many aid programmes grew out of the cold war desire to counter communism (look up Marshall plan) so many countries were rewarded (or punished) through the many programmes.

The political aid (including military) was basically a form of foreign policy and intended to prop up allies and would go to governments (used to do things like counter Islamic terrorism, left wing influence and promoting free market types of capitalism).

Humanitarian aid (including development) aimed at medical and social programmes often in conjunction with NGO’s and the UN.

    *

    How is the money spent?
U.S. aid policy seeks to achieve its aims through a diverse array of programs, which can be organized into several major categories. According to CRS calculations, foreign aid spending as of 2016 can be broken down as follows:

Long-term development aid (42 percent) provides ongoing funding for projects to promote broad-based economic growth and general prosperity in the world’s poorest countries. More than half of this goes to bilateral health programs, including treatment of HIV/AIDS, maternal and family health, and support for government health-care systems, mostly in Africa. This also includes funding to multilateral institutions such as the World Bank and the UN Development Program.

Military and security aid (33 percent) primarily goes toward helping allies purchase U.S. military equipment, training foreign military personnel, and funding peacekeeping missions. A smaller slice goes to “non-military security assistance,” which includes counternarcotics programs in Afghanistan, Colombia, Peru, and elsewhere, as well as nonproliferation and counterterrorism efforts.

Humanitarian aid (14 percent) is spent to alleviate short-term humanitarian crises, such as those resulting from famine, earthquakes, war, state failure, or other natural or man-made disasters. This includes State Department and Defense Department disaster relief efforts, as well as purchases of U.S. agricultural goods and funding for organizations such as the International Red Cross and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

Political aid (11 percent) is intended to support political stability, free-market economic reforms, and democratic institutions. Programs include governance and justice system reforms, backing for human rights organizations, and support for peace talks and treaty implementation.

How Does the U.S. Spend Its Foreign Aid?

This happens but there have been problems with religious groups only giving aid to those with an anti-gay or anti-abortion agenda rather than humanitarian need.

“Anti-abortion and anti-LGBT 'extremists' attended a high-level summit on religious freedom this week, where government officials explained how to access US funding.”

Why is the US government meeting LGBT 'hate groups' and dangling money in front of them?

But....you said it yourself lol...if the aid was doing enough people wouldn't need to flee.

Private charities in the midst of extreme government corruption and a large criminal element cant function as anything but a bandaid

That image with the title '3 Mexican countries' looks like sketch comedy or a headline from The Onion but it isn't.

Fox Got It Wrong With ‘3 Mexican Countries,’ but It Also Got It Right
The network quickly corrected the errant chyron, but it captured something essential about Trump's approach to immigration.

Fox Got It Wrong With ‘3 Mexican Countries,’ But It Also Got It Right

    excerpt:

"The Obama administration had increased the aid flowing to Central America in an effort to improve conditions on the ground and stem the tide of migration. If you want to tackle the complex challenges of governance, economic development, and security, you need to understand the problems of each nation in detail. The Trump administration has instead focused on deterrence: building walls, separating families, and now slashing aid. If your solution to the migrant crisis is to ratchet up the pain of migration until it slows, understanding specifics is not necessary. One Mexico, or three, or five—the solution is the same.

And sometimes, a chyron can get the nature of a policy right by getting the details wrong."

Trump has been frustrated with trade relations with Germany and Europe in general. Maybe he will cut aid to three German countries.

Do you know anything about the histories of these countries?

    Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala

They have had a long history of US intervention that has included in encouraging civil war. To blame these countries for being messed up would be like blaming an adult for being messed up after they have suffered physical and emotional abuse right through their childhood and teens.

It seems to me that cutting back on what aid these countries do receive just seems like a continuation of that abuse.

The thing is that the kind of things that might help are left leaning social and economic policies that right wingers in those countries and in the US would oppose (and not fund).

Last night Trump said his father was born in Germany.
A very wonderful place in Germany no less.
He wasn't, he was born in the Bronx.
At one time he told us he was born in Switzerland or some other place.

Trump declares that the noise from windmills causes cancer.
They also tend to have huge piles of dead birds under them.

I support government wealth redistribution because the rich whites acquired their wealth by criminal actions. Examples are crooked business methods like you see at car dealerships, home repair companies, insurance companies, even dentist offices. I know of a dentist office which charges ten times more than an honest one. They lie about the dental work needed. I know several car repair shops which charge for work which is not needed. I know of insurance companies which refuse to pay on claims after car accidents or home damage. Most American business owners are crooks and they support Trump, because of his agenda to protect crooked businessmen.

Last night Trump had trouble pronouncing words like Origins and kept saying Oranges. It seems George Conway was right: Trump is getting worse.

Yeah I'm aware the US has done some fucked up stuff to Central America. Such as giving vaccines that contain syphilis to the citizens of Guatemala.

Does sending caravans of illegal immigrants to the US make it right?

It does not make it right. But America's actions toward the Central Americans makes it necessary for their poor people to head north. You see, their poverty is a direct result of American foreign policy.

Wasn't there a second syphilis experiment carried out by the US government against unsuspecting negros in Alabama? I just bet Trump loves that one too?

This seems like another insight into how you think, you know little of the past so that is unimportant and you don’t have a clear idea of what the future could be or how to make things better, so you lack all context, everything is basically about the now or immediate future.

So having little idea why the situation has come about and lacking any ideas on how to deal with its causes, I can see how people might just go ‘build a wall’ or some other simplistic idea – it’s like a child that has broken a vase, while knowing they had something to do with it (but not thinking it their fault) and not knowing how to fix it they take the simple way out of hiding the pieces behind a wall of clothes in a cupboard and hoping the problem goes away.

No one is "sending" them. They're fleeing danger. Stop listening to Donald Trump propaganda
