Very true and CNN was saying the other day it's too early to impeach. Does "national emergency" apply to guns or other left wing issues too? Like does this mean Pelosi should shut it down when she does not get universal healthcare? He simply does not understand how things work. It only passes in a party that prides itself on ignorance.
Trump Literally Did Not Understand What a Shutdown Would Do Facing an economic cataclysm, Trump appears to have no endgame in mind. He told Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer he would “look foolish” if he agreed to reopen the government without extracting concessions. But Democrats have no incentive to give him any. Voters in general tend to blame the president for problems. This holds true even when Congress is responsible for the problems, but it especially holds true when the president personally engineers the calamity and announces beforehand on camera that he won’t blame the other side for it.
Trump claimed that "some" of the past U.S. presidents told him a wall should have been built between the U.S. and Mexico. Fake news. All living former presidents refute Trump's claim they privately voiced support for border wall. All living presidents refute his claim.
Trump thinks: Build the wall, round up the Mexicans and put them on the other side, ethnically cleans all Muslims, ship the Haitians, Nigerians, and Somalis back to their Shit-holes, Let Pence pave the way for Jesus to come back, shut all government services for the poor people, and you'll have the perfect Klansman's orgasm.
"judge ruled against me the other day---he's Mexican. Guess that's OK." He was of Mexican heritage--but a legitimate citizen. This guy REALLY hates Mexicans. Asshole thinks he's the CEO of the United states. C'MON MUELLER--PICK UP THE PACE!!! We must rid ourselves of this dumb-ass.
Trump's pal Kavanaugh just ruled on a Arbitration Case. He's pro-arbitration. Arbitration is one of these legal theories which say your employer can stick it to you, just like in at will employment. In arbitration, your employer gets to keep you out of court. Trump's Republican Laws are all about screwing the working person.
As his zenophobic psychosis deepens, Trump is now resorting to labeling Mexican migrants as those who murder U.S. military veterans. Trump's approach is reminiscent of the WIllie Horton fear ads that Bush Sr. ran against Dukakis in the 1988 presidential election. Trump makes grisly case for a border wall, describing beheadings and hammer murders Kevin Breuninger January 9, 2019 Trump makes grisly case for border wall, describing beheadings and hammer murders excerpt: "Trump tried to make his case with a calm delivery that started with his description of a “humanitarian crisis” that has put children at risk, but eventually took a dark turn. The latter part of Trump’s speech included detailed depictions of killings allegedly perpetrated by illegal immigrants, which he has previously brought up in much more raucous campaign rallies. “In California, an Air Force veteran was raped, murdered, and beaten to death with a hammer by an illegal alien with a long criminal history,” Trump said in his first-ever Oval Office address to the American people."
Rosenstein expected to leave DOJ. Trump has been able to dispose of Comey, Sessions, and now, apparently, Rosenstein who under normal circumstances would have filled the AG post after the Trump-imposed resignation of Sessions. This despite the fact that all the evidence, from several studies, suggests illegal immigrants commit fewer violent crimes than U.S. citizens and that illegal immigration hasn't led to an increase in the overall crime rate. Maybe they didn't voice it privately but they sure voiced it publicly. Context is everything. Trump probably did lie about it being a private exchange. But the facts speak for themselves. The Secure Fence Act of 2006, which was passed by a Republican Congress and signed by President George W. Bush, authorized about 700 miles of fencing along certain stretches of land between the border of the United States and Mexico. At the time the act was being considered, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer were all members of the Senate. (Schumer of New York is now the Senate minority leader.) Obama, Clinton, Schumer and 23 other Democratic senators voted in favor of the act when it passed in the Senate by a vote of 80 to 19. On September 30, 1996, President Clinton signed the Illegal Immigrant Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996. The IIRIRA 96 first addresses the broad subject of gaining control of the country’s border control, perhaps the most popular section of the new bill. The most immediate impact of the new bill will be a dramatic increase in the number of Border Patrol agents. 5,000 new agents will be added over the next five years. $12 million dollars has been allocated for a 14-mile triple fence along the US border from San Diego eastward. Gosh it wasn't immoral back then. Yet somehow they have changed their morals now that Trump is asking for it? Keep drinking the Kool Aid.
Partial walls have always been an option and approved by everyone. There have been many calls for secure fencing or walls in strategic places. Only Trump wants a 2,000 mile long concrete, I mean transparent, um steel wall, paid for by the Mexicans. The Secure Fence (not wall) Act of 2006 called for 654 miles of fence, sensors, cameras, lighting, vehicle barriers, and check points, not a 30 to 50 foot tall 2,000 mile long concrete wall. The facts do speak for themselves.
Support for 700 miles of fencing along "certain stretches of land" isn't exactly support for a $ multi-billion wall (or steel slats) across the 2,000 mi. border. The issue is one of cost-benefit in terms of what would provide the most cost-effectivet border security. The barrier Trump is proposing is mainly what Edleman (The Symbolic Uses of Politics) calls "symbolic reassurance" to Trump's base that he's keeping his promise, which was originally a real concrete wall that Mexico would pay for and is now a steel fence that the U.S. taxpayers must foot the bill for. So desperate is Trump to claim a victory that he talks about repairs to patches of fencing as proof that the wall is already being built. Trump hasn't spent the money that was appropriated for his project last session. I agree that morality has and should have nothing to do with the issue of a physical barrier, unless we consider squandering taxpayers' money on a symbolic boondoggle immoral. Schumer and Pelosi voted for over $20 billion for Trump's wall when Republicans held a majority in both houses of Congress and accommodation of the Dreamers was the quid pro quo. Trump turned it down--the master negotiator in action!
Oh I get it now. It's not immoral if built in small pieces and it's not too high and not too hard to get over. What was I thinking.
I don't know. The fence Trump is talking about seems to be built in small pieces and not too high and not too hard to get over, which is why it's a wasteful sop to his base. This is a hostage situation--his stinking wall in return for the government. If we concede to that kind of extortion, they'll be no end to the demands he'll make--or else.
It isnt about morality, it is about being fiscally responsible. Conservatives dont care about that anymore? A few million for a few miles of fencing is nothing compared to the astronomical cost of a 2000 mile brick...steel..whatever.. wall. 5 billion would just be a drop in the bucket and would only build a few miles
Trump's case for the wall seemed lame even to Fox commentators Shep Smith and Chris Wallace. Donald Trump's Border Speech Gets A Savage Instant Fact-Check On Fox News
