Misery loves company (Caa Caa), this made me feel slightly better. I finally got that program, which I was having difficulties with the other day to compile. I'm attempting to match it to another program now and wanted to get it, as well as another program, done before New Years, but that's probably not going to happen. My "turning knobs" is fiddling with functions and that's where I'm unsure. I'm using a hash function and apparently they are not all created equal. I noticed a lot of the good ones use bit shifts, which I think is a bit beyond my skill level, or at least comfort level at the moment. Perhaps, it could be something else though.

Do you know about sidechain compression @soulcompromise? If not, and you want to produce EDM, I recommend familiarizing yourself with it.

  4. What is there to do? What is there that matters? Tara! Home. I'll go home. And I'll think of some way to get him back.
    After all...tomorrow is another day!

  5. I got a text from a guy in my Turkish group, and it reminded me that our exam is slowly approaching.

Now I'm going to go study, so I can be better than everyone else.

We learned about it and busing in Intro to Music Technology. I actually requested a review of sidechain compression. You can actually "sidechain" other things like reverb or delay How to sidechain reverb and delay | MusicRadar or something. The compressor... isn't it like a loudness reducer? Anyway my impression of it was that the instrument ducks out of the way of the kick and creates a sort of pulse in an otherwise non-pulsing instrument. It's very interesting to me, but I'm not taking production very seriously at this point.

That makes me want to read Gone With The Wind again

Its always been marketed as a historical romance but really doesnt get enough credit for being a gritty depiction of the aftermath of war. The last half of the book is dark. And I find it really soothing for some weird reason lol

Just got over a cold. It was going around and I thought I had dodged the bullet. I'm thankful it wasn't that bad and lasted only a day and a half.

I don't really know the underlying details of compression, but yah I think it has to do with loudness, I want to say comparing high and low pass but don't quote me on that. When I was into it, I remember using compression quite a bit when mixing guitar with virtual instruments, because the guitar would almost always clip upon the initial playback, but I didn't like reducing the volume on the channel.

Electrohouse was pretty popular when I learned sidechain compression and it was one of those things where when I learned it, I immeadiately thought of about a dozen songs in which it was utilized. Gave electro that "womp" feel and sounds dynamic.

Not my favorite song but a guilty pleasure and I think it's a good example of sidechain compression:
