In all seriousness, dogs are the shit.

It's cats that I really cannot stand. Really awful, worthless pets.

Are you suggesting Richard Dawkins doesn't like dogs?

He's an interesting guy, but I hated that book. For someone who doesn't believe in God, and dislikes religion...he's a preachy atheist. lol

Not having a dog would be genocide to the dog species. Not having pets would be genocide to the pet species. It's really a silly gripe that wasn't well thought of. It must have been a slow news day on the Trump front.

    Dogs are Hitler. Lol.

The Blind Watchmaker is a better book imo, Those are the only two I've read from him. He still has atheist musings, which perhaps you may find preachy regardless but the majority of the book is more from an evolutionary biologist standpoint, which is what he is learned in, rather than him venturing into politics and other stuff like he does in The God Delusion.

When I left faith and ''identified'' as an atheist about five years ago, I read The God Delusion, thinking it would help, but I think he's a bit too dogmatic. For an atheist. lol I will check out The Blind Watchmaker.

quite honestly never ceases to amaze me how many 'atheists' wind up being so dogmatically religious about their beliefs.

science has always been (to my understanding) about questioning /everything/.. once you declare something as 'this is it, no exceptions' then you've entered the realm of dogma.

of course that's why I'm not unconvinced of the ideas of things like telepathy.. it's not so much a question of 'can'.. it's a question of 'how?' firestarting, object moving, etc.. ok.. 'how?' I don't buy most of the prevailing theories, because they're not repeatable and replicable.. but that doesn't mean the act itself is impossible. guys like dawkin, I really want to respect them, but once the dogma comes out of 'this is everything there is'.. I doubt them as much as someone who says there's a great skyfather who loves you so much that he'll spank you and send you to a place of punishment he created if you don't love him. but then, I'm also an agnostic universalist priest so.. (shrugs) who knows. I have a sensory apparatus that lets in less than .1% of the electromagnetic spectrum, a very limited intellect, a self-preserving subconscious that at times I'm not sure whether it wants to protect me or beat me senseless. How much of total reality do I really think that mess is gonna let in? and how much of that do I actually understand?

    Pfft.

    it's laughable.

Some of that is how people distort what is said or written though. For instance, people act as if Richard Dawkins is like the epitome of a Strong Atheist and I believe even in The God Delusion he comes up with a 7 point scale from Belief to non-belief, where 7 is like an unwavering view of Non-Belief and he proclaims himself a 6 on the scale.

which is the only reason I actually want to respect him, tbh. if he's willing to at least admit to possibility, hey.. that's ok, don't gotta believe everything. dawkins I think I could at least stand to be in a room with.. others, like randi for example.. they're cartoonishly laughable to the point they make a caricature of what they're trying to accomplish.

The human race is ego driven and what better way to stroke the old self-image than man’s best friend who never questions your actions
or judgements and is willing to give up their life in your defense
