I should go to bed but I'm enjoying some youtube in the solitude. It's nice when the dogs, cats, and hubs are knocked out.

I'm watching that 70s show on netflicks. We never had a netflicks but my sister does and there's like 4 or 5 accounts so we got one and can watch.

So I got done picketing (standing around like an asshole) early, but since I was in the city I decided to walk a block and check out this tiny pub. There were only a couple people in there.

They were discussing how it costs an arm and a leg to go to the movies. Now, both these guys were in their 50s or 60s, so I jokingly say, "So I'm guessing neither of you guys went to see Infinity War?":tearsofjoy:

This silly, ironic question turned the place into a bona fide nerd convention. As more people came in, they too got involved in a discussion that spanned comic book characters, Star Trek, 2001: A Space Odyssey , etc.

Also, turns out one guy was in the EPA for 30 years. So that got us in some interesting conversation.

Day went from extremely boring to quite a good time.

That sounds like good fun indeed (except comic book superheroes suck imo :D)
At what hour did you enter that pub? Often the couple of people hanging at the bar at random hours are really boring or just indifferent to folks they don't know.. :p It's really hit or miss!
It can be really fun to unexpectedly have a good chat (or even discussion) with a bunch of new folks.

Philly is the type of town where everyone kind of acts like they know each other. In a bar it's pretty much always perfectly acceptable to put your 2 cents into just about any conversation. It's usually a good time.

Here I see such a convo sooner happen at the coffeeshop (the dutch kind :p), at least at random hours of the day.
The people hanging in pubs at random hours during the day are usually not into nerdy pop culture (i admit that's partly an assumption)

Yeah the nerd aspect of it surprised me as well. I mean how often can one expect everyone to know Star Trek? It was pretty awesome.

I ended up learning some stuff too, Jim, (EPA guy) was well educated and we ended up discussing quantum physics... That is to say, I asked questions and he answered them. It was really interesting.

  9. Topkapı Palace is the most overrated thing ever.

    Ayasofya I enjoyed.

I loved visiting Topkapi! It's a fantastic insight in the late medieval sultans life!
Really digged the harem quarters (not because of the women, it has been long empty mind you..), fun to see the room where the important meetings were held and famous in pictures. But yeah, i even liked the courtyards lol. And of course the museum part which contains the staff of Moses, sword of David and a beard hair from Mohammed!
You obviously haven't been here yet :D:

I didn't want to ruin stuff by adding 'supposed' ;) But yeah, those things are just quaint and dubious additions of course, not the main reason why i enjoyed Topkapi so much.
Btw, I also enjoyed the newer palace a lot, even though its a big pile of generic 19th century kitsch.

Honestly I'd be thrilled to see any of this stuff.

Although I'd probably just go around eating everything I've never tried before.
