I don't think I would ever try to dry anything in a basement... But that's just me.

Our basement is pretty dry, usually, but that's a good point. Maybe I'll appropriate one of the bathrooms for drying and keep the fan running...

I read in the newspaper this week that strawberries are rotting in UK fields! Why? Because there apparently are too less people who want to pick them :( :p

Maybe they should consider reversing their anti-immigrant policy, lol.

    It's true..

    European fruit pickers shun Britain

Our immigration policy is no different now than it has been.

If your talking about brexit, not happened yet..

The farmers won't employ British people because of the minimum wage, which they say is too high..and they can't afford it..

The eastern Europeans can no longer afford to come over and work for such low pay, and who can blame them, they still have to live here, in this tax obsessed country!

They treat them bad, so i say way to go! All 12% of you...

Brexit hasn't happened yet, but I assume that knowing it is going to happen would make people less likely to uproot their lives and move across the continent.

that seems like it would be the best out-of-the-way solution. you could rig up a fan to circulate, and a filter if its still too stinky.
if you have humidity yo might have to mitigate that, but you could probably just leave a tray of rice or something in there, something that would absorb errant moisture. colorado is arid as fuck, unless it is actually raining at the moment. in fact, we have virga to disappoint us all summer. from wiki:

In meteorology, a virga is an observable streak or shaft of precipitation falling from a cloud that evaporates or sublimates before reaching the ground.[1] A shaft of precipitation which doesn't evaporate before reaching the ground is a precipitation shaft. At high altitudes the precipitation falls mainly as ice crystals before melting and finally evaporating; this is often due to compressional heating, because the air pressure increases closer to the ground. It is very common in deserts and temperate climates. In North America, it is commonly seen in the Western United States and the Canadian Prairies. It is also very common in the Middle East, Australia, and North Africa.

Virgae can cause varying weather effects, because as rain is changed from liquid to vapor form, it removes significant amounts of heat from the air due to water's high heat of vaporization. Precipitation falling into these cooling down drafts may eventually reach the ground. In some instances these pockets of colder air can descend rapidly, creating a wet or dry microburst which can be extremely hazardous to aviation. Conversely, precipitation evaporating at high altitude can compressionally heat as it falls, and result in a gusty downburst which may substantially and rapidly warm the surface temperature. This fairly rare phenomenon, a heat burst, also tends to be of exceedingly dry air.

Virgae also have a role in seeding storm cells. This is because small particles from one cloud are blown into neighboring supersaturated air and act as nucleation particles for the next thunderhead cloud to begin forming.[citation needed]

so humidity is rarely an issue out here. i did have an apartment once where i could not make bread crumbs because they would mold instead of dry, but thats really been a one-off situation.

im using the solstice as a reason to make sure i start and finish one project goal every day. yesterday i built the edges of a short raised bed, about 6 x 12 feet, and tilled it.
hubby is going away for a couple of days (*cough, cough* i wish i could go away for a weekend with any of MY friends, but hey, whatever, right?) so i just want to get stuff done.
so that bed needs to be weeded out and raked over, have compost added, and things planted.
and the next thing i am working on is condensing the camping gear to one section of the garage. i was okay with the idea of putting stuff in the attic, but A) i would like to get to go camping/ camp more, so i want it accessible, and B) we have these cots that are heavy as hell, and im not getting those up and down out of the attic. so: the garage.

My key snapped in the lock to my room. Had to kick the door in. It was pretty easy just showing that said lock offered no protection anyway.

You know what's interesting about strawberries. In the United States, the pesticides on strawberries are purportedly particularly bad! I have been told to only buy organic strawberries, and not only because it's better for farmland or whatever. Because they are safer to eat! :worried:

People that have large caged birds, parrots/cockatoos etc. accidentally kill their pets by giving them strawberries. Big AG says the amount of poison in strawberries isn't enough to kill a human. It is certainly strong enough to kill a bird. It can't be washed off either as it is in the fruit, not on the fruit.

Quite a few years ago Erin, the crow almost died suddenly. The only possible cause would have been I had given her a strawberry that morning.

Farmers can't find help in the US either. Imagine that all the Mexicans leave and no one else will work 14 hour days for $4 an hour. In theory it leads to raised wages for Americans like Trumpers want but it will not happen because farmers can not afford it.
