I've heard some of their names--can't get away from that. I don't know what they do, if anything. So one of ém likes trump? One of the 60 million, I guess.

The Katrina response was supposedly racist, we heard. When Hurricane Sandy hit New Jersey, we learned that government response is merely slowed by the scope of relief efforts.

Sometimes things have to happen close by to get the real picture.

I worked for FEMA during Katrina. Bush deployed assets to be inserted quickly. The Louisiana governor would not allow those assets to be brought into the state and they were held back outside the state. He again offered. It was again declined. He then tried to deploy FEMA without the states approval. They denied them access. Bush took the OK Eff You approach by that time.

FINALLY when they had the media coverage they wanted, they said we need FEMA now. By then the levee was gone and the rest is history.

Then when we were there to assist, the population of the 9th Ward were so desperate that we could not deploy to them without the assistance of the National Guard to protect us. (between the lines this means we were getting robbed at gunpoint for anything of value we had on our person or in our vehicles).

And THAT we had to do between us and the National Guard because the government of LA did not want the NG to be seen as working with FEMA because it would make them (local leadership) look weak.

Katrina was a complete learning experience for sure. The La. Dems refused help from the U.S. because it was run by Bush. I believe the mayor might still be in prison for corruption and the governor was voted out. The long term victims were the residents of the 9th Ward, served by the Democratic leadership. Most of them took thier FEMA checks and their relocation package, provided by a Republican led administration, and never came back. New Orleans and LA leadership certainly didn't want to take care of them before or after the storm.
