    Less laws.

Falling off ladders kill more people than mass shootings. 300 annually die fallong off a ladder. Source CDC

Knives kill 4x as many people as all rifles combined. Handguns kill 8x as many people as all rifles combined. Source FBI

March is ladder safety awareness month.

Of course I am. I'm participating here aren't I? It's the evidence that's shown it won't work, not me saying it.

Great - so you're open to stricter gun control laws. We're not that far apart after all.

Please don't assign things to me I haven't said. Clearly, everything I've posted says I believe strict enforcement of existing gun control laws would make the horrible events that this thread is based on an almost non event. There will always be some crazy who circumvents anything in his or her way, but effective enforcement would have eliminated more than half the particular events discussed here.
Enforcement before more legislation that means nothing unless enforced is my stand. Change my mind if you can.

I don't think anyone has been arguing for more legislation that would not be enforced ;)
Some new ideas for gun control rules have been listed. Obviously enforcing them properly is an essential part of it.

Nobody said that. Gun control laws are not the answer.

They’re definitely part of the answer - and FYI he did say that

Actually, if the current gun laws get better enforced they will be stricter than they used to be. So yes, lots of people (on both 'sides' even) have said gun control laws are a big part of the solution.

Mass shootings kill fewer people than ladders.

    1. So what? That changes nothing about the debate. You’re either okay with the gun deaths or you’re not. Ladders don’t change that. 2. Ladders very rarely come into a school and kill children 3. Guns kill more people than ladders

Wouldn't entertain his ladder analogy too long, Kerri. Its even worse than the car one.

Can you think of any other possibility to stop school shootings without stricter gun laws? Rifles kill 1/4th as many people as knives and 1/8th as many people as handguns.

Short of taking away all guns, there will always be mass shootings.

We dont need to harm law abiding citizens with legislation that will not work to stop fewer people getting killed than those killed by ladders.

It’s a big complex problem. I don’t think there’s a single solution and different solutions may well me more appropriate for different states. There are already different gun laws, different effectiveness in enforcing those laws, differences in treatment of mental health issues, different levels of poverty, drug use, crime etc. I do however believe that greater gun control needs to be part of the discussion

Yes we all understand that. I’m just trying to reduce - not eliminate - gun violence

I believe the existing ones are. I don't feel additional unenforced legislation will do anything.

Yeap. And its a damn small number of people. Ladders kill more. Why take away law abiding citizens rights because of a few wackos when the laws wont even stop the shootings any way.
