Mr. Church

My attention span for TV watchin is limited. I take full advantage of the strategically placed commercial breaks. As such, a 1½ hour feature might take 2½ days for me to finish. I recently found MR. CHURCH while cruising the offerings of ROKU.
"That looks like Eddie Murphy!" said I.
It was indeed he. And he was in a role that I had never seen.
Now, you might ask, why on earth would a vanilla hippie with Yankee sensibilities and sensitivities who has adopted California as his home be associating himself with the likes of Edward Regan Murphy? Well, I have seen many of his comedies and he does have a level of animation that is engaging and humorous on a very base level.
I was very moved by his performance. Some actors you just never assume would do drama. I saw Carol Burnett and Alan King do dramatic work. Seeing actors outside their stereotypical roles is a refreshing change. And in this film, the Eddie Murphy character cooks, tends a garden, plays piano, is respectful. Oh, and they even have him working with needle and thread. And no, he's NOT GAY!
I'd recommend it if you feel like feeling good and seeing something where people have redemption in their lives.
