Ich wollte ich könnte mit dabei sein.

I wish I could be there.

I am not as fluent in German as I would like to be. I have committed so many rules to memory , however, nonetheless, I find my brain slowed down because of my limited vocabulary. Words escape me as I age (even in English). Does this verb take an accusative or dative object? Is my phrasing (out)dated?

I also learned a lot of vocabulary from song lyrics. German hit parade music (when it isn't heavy-duty yodeling) can be somewhat sexist at times. In Austria, for example, Dirndl is the name of the 'Heidi dress', but it's also used to mean young girl.

As an introvert, I seldom wish I could be there (wherever there might be) unless I am travelling alone.
