I would totally want him as a friend if he were real

Ever watch a television program or a mini-series and fall for a character? It doesn't happen too often in my circles. Guess I'm just picky. Or maybe I get distracted if there are parts of the package that I find disturbing, alarming, unsettling, or simply not at all attractive to my way of thinking.
This notion came about after I had finished watching the Netflix mini-series remake of TALES OF THE CITY. I used to be a San Franciscan in the mid- to late 80s and only left when I couldn't find work and started being priced out of my housing before the dreaded dot com bubble bursting era. Used to actually be able to afford rent in that town; I had a studio for $500/month in a building with an elevator. Can't imagine what the rent there now might be. I just took a break and looked at a studio on CRAIGSLIST and found this title:

$1,575 Large Studio, Gym+Roof Deck | Convenient Location | 277GG (tenderloin)

GG stands for Golden Gate Avenue. That neighborhood, the Tenderloin, is a vermin infested dump. There is a great deal of undesirable street traffic (I've seen people relieving themselves on the sidewalk) and not the part of town towards which I would ever be gravitated.

Anyway, the characters on Barbary Lane in Tales of the City always seemed to me to be people who would make good friends. I never met too many people like that when I lived there (in San Francisco, that is, not Barbary Lane). I still have some friends who are still part of the city. I love returning once a year (around my birthday) to reconnect and to do some shopping and to just get lost in the city.

Sometimes I wish I could recreate Hollywood characters in real life. But then again, doesn't everyone?
