Don't pick on introverts...

I'm attending a conference that has something called a mandatory plenary.
noun
noun: plenary; plural noun: plenaries
a meeting or session attended by all participants at a conference or assembly.

I stayed for about 30 minutes. It was all I could endure. The speakers were loud and raucous. They incited others to stand and shout. They asked people to stand and embarrassed them with some good humored joking, "You all were supposed to send a $25 donation check!" When the pledge of allegiance began, they had about five marines march in with the flags of the USA and of the island. Two of the marines were carrying a single rifle each. Do you think I want to be in a room with a marine carrying a rifle? I don't care if it's a toy. So everyone stood up and placed his/her hand over his/her heart and the first song was about the island (the anthem).
Not much into pledging allegiance to some place that I have not pledged allegiance to. And it's not even in English!
I then had to listen to the CODE OF CONDUCT. It was a list of the usual bad behavior in which one is not supposed to engage. And here I am, the introvert, who is sitting next to loud boors who sound like attendees at a MAGA event. I felt as if the air and my personal space were being invaded. And what's worse is when others see that I am not participating in the stupidity of it all, I am asked what's wrong with me.
So, I have opted to take off and wander about the Old City.
Adios, plenary!
