cum Cibos

"Duo capsulae per os absolve cum cibo ante horam somni."
Take two capsules by mouth with food before bedtime.
It sounds like a pretty simple order. Of course, the obsessive compulsive and anal retentive go bat-sh*t crazy at the prospect of following instructions to a T. What exactly does "with food" mean? Well, to me, it means that you ingest the capsules while there is food that has passed the esophagus recently.
What is food? For the most part I would say it is something that was once solid that contains some form of nutrition (such as a carbohydrate or a protein). So this could be crackers, cheese, beans, egg... Technically, I suppose, if you have one of those liquid meals such as BOOST or ENSURE, that would work as food too. It does not mean that the capsule has to be embedded into the food or that it needs to pass its way towards the stomach as the exact moment as the food.
Cook, a former tenant, used to press pills into pieces of cheese. That's OK if you're covertly giving it to a dog, but it is not an essential method of administration for a human.
And hours of sleep? Whenever you are heading to bed. It is meant for a time when the body is at rest. In other words, don't take the capsule and then start stretching and cardiovascular weight training.
That's my two cents on the matter.
