Night under the stars

Who’s done wild camping? Climbed a mountain and stayed at the top or even in a forest. Who’s up for a night under the stars…

      nice way to wake up!

I never used tents much, unless foul weather was expected (and in 'Nam, we didn't use tents in the bush at all.. nothing like trying to sleep in monsoon rains.. I especially liked guessing exactly was crawling or slithering under me in leaf litter.. NOT! but it was best just to let it go)

now - with so many cougars up here (3 walking brazenly down street near Wal-Mart in residential area by main road (100 meters from I-5 as well) and four caught on cameras by my son in Mount Shasta and another killing a pig in backyard and two sitting in deck staring into house at dog one mile from me and two I've seen in my back yard when lights go on, makes me not want to lay out anymore with neck exposed..

@mountain_seed I’ve seen a lot of people just using them waterproof sleeping bags but I’m not ready for that haha I much prefer a tent

cougars NAHHH I don’t think I’d be sleeping outside with them either
I just get surrounded by sheep or cows haha
      Nothing to wild

Camping is great! We would sail to nearby uninhabited islands when young and camp on the beach. Usually with hammocks strung between the coconut palms.

I also did a backwoods boogie once with a friend from Kentucky to California, back roads only and camped just about everywhere we could find, once on the side of a road in Oregon. But we would go from hot spring to hot spring through the Rocky Mtns, which was the best. Nothing like a hot bath to get cleaned up, then a good night's sleep.

But now I live in a forest, and it's almost like camping, with the river rushing below the house you can hear it all night if the windows are open.

Oh I wanted buy a hammock once upon a time, getting to that age now where sleeping on a rocky floor on a matt is a back killer haha

Sounds perfect mate but don’t you guys have bears there? Jeez I’d be sleeping with 1 eye open and my sword wouldn’t leave my side ⚔️

sounds like my perfect house, 1 day zen, 1 day, I’m there, I’ll own 1…. Bet it’s so peaceful :)

Maybe if I had an air mattress, I don't think I'd be able to walk in the morning without it, lol. I always wanted to go camping but I only ever went to camp and slept in a cabin, went on day trips for hiking, and rented a camper in a campground for a week...now I live in one but I don't think thats the kind of camping you meant. ;)

@Moon Goddess oh that’s cheating goddess
      That’s not wild camping :)
There’s nothing better than waking up under the stars, watching the sun come up and taking a morning dip in the fresh spring watered tarn to wake you up
Your house sounds perfect and you know it ;)

@viking_:tearsofjoy: Calling it a house is being very generous but can't beat the location. I did used to sleep in a tent in the backyard at my grandparents house, they had 3 acres and I was all the way near the tree line. I carried on the tradition and camped in the backyard with my kids when they were young but that was on a small plot in a more urban area. Would those count since I woke up cold and achy from laying on the ground? Lol

@Moon Goddess yes yes that counts and what great memories, I remember them myself :)

in 1981 I went up into California's Eastern Sierra to hunt mule deer.. a guy I worked with wanted to go for the adventure.. some of the guys shied away from him because he seemed odd to them, but I'd only known him a few months and oddballs don't bother me unless they can't shut up and blow an ambush..

well, there's a lot of Basque shepherding up there and it was October.. Snows were pushing deer and sheep/shepherds down from 10,000' summer ranges.. I noted my companion was looking a little too long at the sheep with misty eyes.. I figured maybe he missed his dog back home or something.. but when we walked past a camp and he asked a shepherd if there was a school to learn shepherding? well.. let's just say we didn't hunt together anymore..
