Now that temperatures rarely get above 50º now, my barefoot days are over until spring. One thing worries me: how do I keep my feet tough over winter? Going barefoot will be a rare occurrence, as it will be too cold. Does anyone know any ways I can keep my feet tough over winter with minimal barefooting? I don't want to have to start from square one come spring.
P.s. I have noticed some skin on my soles start to wear off, and you can see the different layers. You might call it peeling, I don't really know.

    Anyway, any thoughts?

Make a hot coal runway and walk over it 4 times a day. :)

i generally go barefoot minimally over the winter since it gets cold here too. i wouldn't say that you go all the way back to square one by spring. sure, you lose some foot toughness, but on day one in the spring i can still walk on pretty much any surface, and it's fully back to normal within a couple weeks.

good to know. After some conditioning over the summer, and very little barefoot over winter, it won't take long to build back up.

I’ve still been barefoot a lot because of the weather staying warm but yep, I guess anywhere up north is going to have those winter months coming up where it’s wool sock season

Now that the weather is getting colder, we light a wood fire in the evenings. Rather than use a poker, I just press the logs in and crush the embers down with my bare feet. It keeps them tough all winter. Just remember not to do it unless you are wearing heavy denim or leather jeans, otherwise you will be keeping your feet tough by having to use them to stomp your burning pants out. LOL.

Hi, my experience tell's you won't loose all your toughness just from a winter break. And also in winter you may find some chances to go barefoot and so stay trained a bit. For example going shopping in a city, as you stay inside shops/malls the most time and only have to go short distances outside. Or visiting a museum and all these things.

oh, okay. But I don't think I'll be doing much public barefooting in winter.

Wouldn't walking outside barefoot in the cold keep them tough?

Sure you do. You're a musician. Believe me………it's an art, and a state of mind………and you have the mind. Watch them until you feel it . Then take it in small steps. I have three friends that have asbergers, and they are skateboard magicians. They are fearless. Two of them are also musicians.
