i'm male, single, and with limited income. my interior decor is random (mostly second-hand) furniture pieced together, with some random framed posters and goodwill art on the walls.
Most of my stuff is thrifted as well If I was wealthy I would be an art collector Since I'm not, I try to be creative. I frame cheap prints or even pictures I find in books/magazines I found these really nice italian picture frames at goodwill, they look old but i'm not really a great judge of that..but either way I like them, they're small and round and I think I'm going to print out black and white pictures of some sort of eccentric artist, scientist, musician I admire. I haven't decided who to feature yet, I have 3 frames I like doing stuff like that, I like for my guests to come over and sit down and glance over and see a random framed photo of Nikola Tesla staring at them, making them feel weird lol And I make random artsy-ish things out of natural materials and put them around the house I'm a big fan of accent walls because you can get away with bold colors without it being overwhelming. I have a bright reddish orange wall (I was going for a sunset feel) in my living room then theres a door on that wall that leads to a den, the back wall of the den is painted navy blue and seeing the blue through the open door on the wall of red looks really good. I painted my coffee table the same navy blue with white legs. My style is kind of eccentric. I might post some pictures soon
indoor plants look wonderful, if you've got the patience and self dicipline to keep up with looking after them and not forgetting to. to me, shapes that are relatively smothing and simple, without being overly, exsessively rectangular. all look good. interspersed with the practicality of lots and lots of shelving. pictures of interiors i don't think i've made any really good examples, but there probably are some on my f.a. i do kind of more then a little favor the techno-cave look. but the frumpy lived in natural look i like too, much more then trying to create any particular kind of a style. really the combination of those three, along with a kind of spacial minimalism, that the latter might seem to belie. lots and lots of open visible access storage, in other worlds, like wall to wall shelving, makes it all work. when there isn't enough of that, well, i wouldn't want to live in furnature show room. i had a relative once who had a room that no one was allowed to use that looked like one, some humans are just nuts about things like that. no. a space should be just filled with things you love and enjoy using. not ritual space to impress visitors, unless maybe that was a big thing in your life, to be always having lots of parties and inviting lots of people over, which i guess comes back to being one of those to each their own things. this is kind of an example of what i like an interior space to look like: http://www.furaffinity.net/full/20086132/ that plus things like http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15606730/ and http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15387986/ the quintissential 'hippie' house kind of thing.
My place is black white and silver.. it suits my new minimalist life.. Easy to keep clean, leather chairs are easier to keep clean. My plants are in black and white pots. Selection of candles in silver and black on my black and silver glass table and chairs.. simple!
wherever i lived with my parents growing up was like that. wherever they rented or even that brief time when i was in high school when they were buying a place. its what i'm used to a house people actually live in looking like. if i could afford it, well i'm not into if i was rich trying to impress anyone about it, but a lot of the people i meet on line ARE artists, and as you can probably tell, i like to make pictures myself, so i would commission and buy a lot more stuff off of them to support their being able to live off of it.
Agreed. Brick accent walls are also cool. Used to see that quite a bit on the east coast. But accent walls can transform an otherwise dull room.
yeah i'm not saying there's anything wrong with my thrift store decor, just that it's more patchwork rather than a planned theme.
