The Conversation (which bills itself as being the epitome of "academic rigor, journalistic flair"), has this story which interests me...

Marijuana DOES affect your sleep: Expert warns the drug can help users nod off - but they may struggle to rest without it
    • Deirdre Conroy, a clinical associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Michigan, analyzed how medical marijuana impacts sleep
    • Most people use medical marijuana for sleep help if they are suffering from pain or PTSD - but Conroy warns most will then struggle to sleep without it
    • People who suffered from depression were more likely to sleep better with medical marijuana than those who didn't
    • Currently, 28 states and the District of Columbia have legalized medical marijuana use in the US
On the other hand, just listening to music may put you to sleep just as well.

I've never liked to use it for sleep, it usually has the opposite effect because it makes me want to stay up and do something fun lol

I've done that! :) Eating edibles is different than smoking to some degree though. I was taking something like 30 mg at night in the form of a small piece of chocolate cut from a larger bar. It almost always took a long while to kick in (I did this each night over the course of around 1 year), but the point I'm getting to is that sleep came very easily. Of course that is often the case when I'm sober and just vegging out in front of the tube as well.

Pot is never good right before bed. I mean, usually the sleepiness doesn't kick in until it starts to wear off after a couple hours. I have never really smoked it to sleep, even though it has helped me sleep.

However, I will concur that abstaining after a period of regular use can lead to sleeping problems. I have found this can be combated by taking a combination of magnesium, niacin and melatonin.

the biggest issue is that it does interfere with REM sleep and many/most people experience REM-rebound a couple of weeks after stopping smoking.
    Alcohol also suppresses REM sleep.

I've never gotten the bad dreams people talk about when stopping. I guess for a few days I have more in depth dreams. The kind that feel like they take hours but probably only last 10 minutes. But they are never that unpleasant or out of control. I also know how to lucid dream though so when things get odd I can usualy say this is not real and I'm going to prove it by waking up now. It works a lot of the time.

I don't get more dreams on weed. I get less dreams. Might be coincidence but I used to have mega bad dreams, negative dreams. They were cool but they were rough, rugged, raw, negative, hurtful... All the ingredients for an epic dream. But it stopped the moment I cleansed a dream weaver in my room. They just stopped. It's been years since I had an epic dream of which I used to have every night.

For a while and I still really believe it but my dreams were an escape journey into another beings life. I rarely ever dream of myself, I'd always be others, doing what they do, not in control but just in their body, experiencing what they do.. and they mostly were not good people. In fact, I've had to witness the deplorable nature of human this way.

But all that stopped with the dream weaver. I just don't dream as much anymore..

But off the weed I'm a total mess that can't sleep. Toss and turn, kick and toss some more. Sweat.. Cold sweats.. Bedsheets soaked...

THC makes me stay up all night, but if I take some CBD oil (I prefer Elixinol) 2 hours before bedtime I fall right to sleep. CBD counteracts the psychoactive effects of THC.

Hi, before you start something, you need to at least learn it. Here's a useful site with a lot of information that you will need. Http://www.ncsm.nl/strain/cotton-kandi There are not so many resources, I learned almost everything from it.

the spammers are out in full force today.

you don't need a website to learn about weed, it's kind of everywhere already. unless you're over about 27, then nobody will sell to you anymore and you have no choice but to start drinking heavily instead.

I've been smoking several joints a day for a few years now, here in SoCal. I have close at least two or three large, bulging kitchen-size trash bags full of various sizes and colors empty plastic pill bottles from all the purchases of weed I've made at the local area dispensaries.

It does seem that my dreams have close to disappeared for a long while, though at times I'll get a fleeting glimpse of one I might have had that morning, after another night of restless legs, attenuating the effects with herbal medication/weed.

Just last Friday, I had a cracked tooth extracted. One of the rears on the bottom, so it was a minimal trauma operation, fully numbed up (You know the drill,, "Okay, you'll just feel a pinch,,,"). The rules say no smoking while it heals (a few days, and actually, I think it's primarily a rule for tobacco smokers, since nicotine reduces blood flow to the area needing healling), so I've been a few days without weed, mostly, except for a bit of weed syrup one night. I had a rather vivid dream just the other morning, after another night of fitful sleeplessness, dancing or standing, rocking out to the irresistible tune of my body's nervous energy. The dream was seemingly very brief, perhaps only a few seconds, during which I caught a glimpse of my own, personal psyche. There was a young woman in the dream, one so casual and free, walking by me, purposely casting her aura in my direction.

Without erection, in this case at least, no real sexual content, just a glimpse of a love longed for long ago, but reminding me of what could have been. Another "ideal woman" dream. Now I know why wealthy guys always seem to have a mistress or two, alongside of a wife.

Me, I've been blessed with enough for my wife and I, and three lovely children along the way, but never enough to afford that kind of luxury, perhaps to all of our benefit. I seemingly did not marry my dream woman, but perhaps we've both worked harder at a peaceful life than another coupling, in another, alternate universe might have offered.

But yeah, until tonight, I had taken a weed break. Tonight I may not remember any dreams, but truth be told, I was playin' gui-tar like Stevie Ray, the Allman Brothers and P-Funk all rolled up into one, at a local jam. My own son said he wished he'd recorded it. Damn.

Well,,it's 6:21 AM here, and I think I'll "hit the hay", "catch forty winks", doze a while,,, it's gettin' to be sunrise, and I've only got so long to get back in the bed/coffin. Maybe I should move to Transylvania.

Only certain indica strains can help put you to sleep.

As most of you know, not all marijuana is created equal (obviously).

I'm dependent on ambien. You could say I'm psychologically addicted to the stuff. I love the taste of sleeping pills, and I know it will put me right to sleep so I can make it to work the next morning.

When I take Ambien, the problem is...

I feel drowsy the next morning. I'll wake up at 3AM feeling restless and unable to get back to sleep. And I don't have any dreams while I'm on it.

Strains I've tried to substitute for ambien include:

    1. Purple Train Wreck
    2. Rude Boi

I had some good results with Rude Boi so far. However I'm not yet ready to conclude this is the ideal strain for it.
Purple Train Wreck was a complete failure. It kept me tossing and turning all night. Made the insomnia worse.

You can try a sleeping supplement from the supplement muscle stores. I take delta zone and take that and it might put me to rest for 3-5 hrs but I feel really good when I wake up in fact it works so well I try not to take it or else I ought build a tolerance. 2x a week.
