I have been told that while men enjoy the feel of the hand of another person masterbating them (enjoy the act from start to finish) when it comes to doing it themselves , while they may be enjoying watching porn or fantasising, the actual physical feeling of hand on penis is doing nothing for them except that it will produce an orgasm in the end and this is the only physical pleasure they get.
Is this true?

Not for me either. The feeling of my hand going up and down, twirling the tip with my fingers, playing with my asshole, is all part of leading up to exploding all over my stomach. Then I do it all over again, and again, and again......

Without any doubt the entire act is enjoyable in the extreme.

The orgasm and ejaculation is the ultimate climax, but it is all par of the one process.

Especially with the 'edging' method.

Not true for me, especially while edging. When I get myself right to the brink of orgasm and hold it there for 20-30 minutes (or more!), the sensation of almost-cumming seems to slowly intensify until the entire length of my penis is -- ah, can't describe it. The ejaculation is a flare of intensified pleasure but of course is fairly brief. Lying naked in bed, wallowing on the edge for as long as I like is, in its own way, just as good.

Totally wrong for me. The orgasm is just the conclusion. For me it's all about stroking, sometimes hard, sometimes slow. Most of my masturbation sessions last 2+ hours.

With me, it's not just about the finish, it's the entire process that's enjoyable. Some of my masturbation sessions are without any outside stimulus of watching porn, or reading erotic stuff, or listening to porn audio. I'm just by myself, and just enjoy the physical sensation of stroking my cock and using my imagination. Other times, I do watch videos or look at pictures, and still enjoy the physical sensation from start to end. It's not just the destination, it's the journey to get there.

I love edging for at least a half hour. I usually use my pre cum as lube and play for at least that long. I can usually hit myself in the face if I arch m back just a little.

The orgasm is undoubtedly the most intense part, but it is also short. Personally I enjoy everything even from the anticipation, i.e. feeling horny and knowing that I have the opportunity, or soon will have, to masturbate, all the way through the first touch, the early stroking, being at the edge and prolonging it as long as I can, the orgasm and the relaxed afterglow at the end.

Yes, of course men like to do something with someone else whether that is getting a hand job, a blow job or penetration and, as other have commented, this may have been an attempt to initiate a hand job from you, but any man who does not enjoy masturbating has a problem.

I've never been able to orgasm by any other than my own hand. In the past when I actively engaged in sex, I could not cum from a blowjob nor during the act of sex. I can only cum if I stimulate myself with my own hand.

As for the orgasm, that for me is what is the most pleasurable. My own hand is merely the tool to get there.

If that bothers you, not being able to orgasm except by your own hand, it shouldnt be difficult to rectify. Or maybe youre cool with it.

I enjoy the entire process of masturbation, whether I am doing it myself or my SO is using her hand. No orgasm is necessary for enjoyment.

I’m inclined to think (and I’m sure most of you can agree with me on this) that there are several components to that contribute to overall pleasure and achieving orgasm. The act of masturbating is done with the ultimate goal of reaching a climactic reward, am I right? I don’t know that we can easily say, with any certainty, what each individual person enjoys when it comes to masturbation, but physical touch and stimulation definitely play a role. It’s possible that the individual you are referring to only cares about achieving orgasm (doesn’t really care how it happens as long as it does happen). I think that in order to really answer this question you need to take your own interests and like/dislikes into account. I mean, do you honestly think it would be enjoyable to just have orgasms on command? Yes, there is instant gratification to be had but what about all the other wonderful aspects of intimacy?

There are a lot of different factors that can be incorporated with talking about masturbation. If fact, when it comes to arousal, men have a tendency to hold visual stimuli in pretty high regard (Levay & Baldwin, 2012, p. 195). So it really can vary from person to person. If visual stimuli floats your boat, great; if physical contact is what you desire, awesome; if you don’t really care how you achieve orgasm just as long as you get it, that’s okay too… albeit not as much fun (in my opinion). Slickbbb, I don’t know if there’s a cut and dry response to your question. Being that this is coming from a female perspective, I could be pretty far off ;) However, my two cents is that the physical stimuli never hurts when getting intimate with your partner (either male or female). I feel that it leads to far more satisfying results!
