These poor people are so scared.

They've lost over 400 people to earthquakes this month.

I don't like the coverage this has been given by the media because I still don't know the total number of earthquakes that have occurred. Is it two, three, or is four now? I don't know! It seems like an awful lot of geological activity for one region in such a short amount of time.

 

On Sept 8th they had the 8.1

On the 19th they had the 7.1

On the 23rd they had the 6.1

That's a lot of earthquakes!

 

The first earthquake this month -- an 8.1 magnitude temblor on Sept. 7 that killed at least 90 people.

Tuesday's 7.1 magnitude earthquake that Mexican officials say has killed at least 300 people.

They haven't finished clearing rubble and expect the death toll to rise.

 

It's actually pretty common. Earthquakes often occur in clusters. Foreshocks, aftershocks, etc.

 

But after so many days? I don't know that much about it I guess, but the impression I had was that aftershocks and so forth were within perhaps the same 24 hours. Edit: Ok, just looked it up and you're right! They don't have to be within the same period at all to still be considered aftershocks. For larger quakes there can be more related smaller quakes; foreshocks and aftershocks. Got it! Thanks!
