Sex on TV has slowly progressed to what you see today. In the 50's there was nothing remotely close. How did Ricky and Lucy manage to have a child when all that was in the bedroom was a pair of twin beds. And that was the most sexual show at the time. Ed Sullivan wouldn't even let Elvis wiggle his hips and Patty Duke was the All American girl every mom wanted junior to bring home. In the 60's things relaxed. The Addams family portrayed Gomez as a push over every time Morticia spoke french. There was a lot of innuendo in this and other shows and even though Ed Sullivan insisted The Doors change the lyrics to "Light My Fire", Jim Morrison held fast but was banned from ever appearing on the show again. Then the 70's opened up with MASH doctors chasing nurses in Korea and Archie Bunker trying to remain in the 50's but his daughter, Gloria, being portrayed as sexy promiscuous wife to a deadbeat career student. The likes of Rue McClanahan portraying a promiscuous man chasing senior on "The Golden Girls" was a foray into "AARP" lust but the show was stolen by Estelle Getty's character as far as sex comments goes. The 80's was ushered in with Farrah Fawcet, Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith, and Cheryl Ladd being very sexy angels. But innuendo wasn't portrayed as much as the series Baywatch which cast Playboy Playmates in starring roles beginning in the late 80's and carrying forward into the 90's. Gay's finally got recognition in the 90's with the sitcom "Will and Grace". Television has become more revealing as the government continued to relax the guidelines and cable, satellite, with other forms of media started producing television not meant for over the air consumption. Corporations such as Playboy and Vivid have content on cable and the publisher, Larry Flint of Hustler magazine, continued to challenge the right to free speech allowing the likes of Howard Stern to become successful sex promoters in certain formats. It has taken nearly 70 years for media outlets to get sex to where it is today but the momentum is growing. Expect a lot more to come whether you like it or not.

Sex is easy shock value for the masses. Like explosions and over-the-top action. It can be something different and not cheap, but I can't think of any examples.

there has been murder and mayham on there since forever, and nobody whines about that.

examples? i haven't watched tv in too long to be current, but game of thrones, and before that, LEXX.
(in the dominant culture that controls the tv industry)
sex is still only ok if mixed with overt violence and that in turn, always seems justified by money.
(don't ask me what's up with that; stupid human tricks)
(i would love to see sex that was innocent and presented innocently, but that seems to still be the most tabu of all)

Ever since flatscreens became the norm I prefer sex on the couch. They're so thin it just makes it impossible

I feel like the adult shows on tv are not good like back in the day when i was like 9,.10 years old. Which would have been in mid 90's. But now, everything changed. Ya everyone who was young in the 90's are adults now but what are we suppose to watch? Lol..where are the adults only stuff??

sex scenes in shows are just there to make you feel bad about yourself for having no friends and having to watch tv shows with your parents and then feeling awkward because theyre in the room with you which also makes you remember you have no friends and have to watch tv with your parents. get owned freaking libtards. xD :p ;) :p

I remember as a child being devastated watching Mohamad Ali shake like a leaf in front of the cameras and tell the world he had brain damage. The Pentagon and NFL both hid the medical evidence of brain damage from the public for decades, yet the most controversial thing on TV in recent years was a woman accidently showing a nipple at half-time. Get over it! Stop watching people kill each other and stop turning away from love.

North America is the weirdest for portraying sex in the media in my opinion. You can flaunt it in magazines and tv and movies, until it gets too real then it’s banned! Yet everyone does it and thinks about it!! Like it’s just sex, it’s normal. If people get off to it, that’s normal too

Ok, here's my spiel... I feel like the big draw to Game of Thrones was the nudity. I don't know why! I've never even seen it/googled it/otherwise heard anything at all about it! But that has been my thinking. People are obsessed with nudity on screen; sex scenes included.

I grew up without cable so we had the antenna and whatever was being broadcast. There were stringent policies about what could be shown, etc. I learned that TV would not be showing anything that was inappropriate or things that could be misconstrued as such. I trusted television, and I still sort of feel let down when something questionable is on the mainstream channels. That's my thought. :)

Well, one of the guidelines was the time programs air. Now a lot of tv channels are also streaming their content/offer it 'on demand' kids can see nudity or overly violent (or otherwise unsuitable) content any time of day.
Some people like to question everything ;) Doesn't neccessary mean they're against it

If it's the case parents don't like sex violence etc on TV or the Internet then it's their responsibility to more closely govern that child's viewing habits even if it comes to pulling their cell phones.
Responsibility begins at home not at the FCC or a congressional committee.
A closer look at the word responsibility and we see response - ability.

Sex on television is all about the quest for perfection, using models and extensive plastic surgery. Notably, the Japanese are especially prudish about sexual references on TV and in movies, but set the standards for the most graphic violence imaginable, while their men tend to prefer porn stars that look 13 years old. The harder they strive for perfection, the more infantile the boob tube becomes.

You see it on tv series shows like the game of thrones.
Sex, people with their genitals out, boners, peeing, etc.

It's up to you if you want to watch that sort of raunchy tv.

Also if you have kids of your own who want to watch the same show with you it should be ok.

Remember sex education is part of the school system.
It's only natural for people of all walks of life to react in a sexual nature.

There are even video clips that are played that are of a sexual nature.

I remember The Black Eyed Peas bringing out a song called My Humps where their then female member of the band Fergie sang this song.

It was done in a way to make people become aroused.
