Beware of mirrors. They tell lies! Clothing shops deliberately install mirrors that make Women look thinner, and Men broader. Most mirrors distort anyway. Reflections caught fleetingly in glass fronted buildings are not to be trusted!

I know this for myself, having suffered from body dysmorphia. Instead of judging your physique from the cubist-like montage of the daily attack of random reflections, get someone to take an accurate photograph, and stick to that self image. Let's learn to love our bodies again.

I think body dysmorphia is a bit more complex than seeing yourself as bigger in different mirrors; someone with true BDM would look at themselves in a normal mirror and see their body as imperfect or flawed.

I guess if distorting mirrors helped to sell clothing, that would make sense. I think I certainly look different in different mirrors sometimes.

Sorry to hear this Ged. It must be pretty distressing.

Mirrors Don't Scare Me.......But What Does Scare Me Is The Lighted Mirror I Bought A Couple Of

Weeks Ago......One Side Is A Normal Mirror But Flip It Over And The Other Mirror Has 8X Magnification.....

Now That Was A Serious Shock To The System......[IMG]

How can a mirror make women look thin and make men look more broad?

And where is the mirror that makes women SEE more broads?

You've honestly never seen a funhouse mirror?

Any mirror with the slightest modification can distort the image

    I'll huff
    And I'll puff

No it didn't really affect me. I didn't take it seriously. Some people have it a lot worse than me.

I'm drunk as shit, so maybe I missed the part of the OP's post where he mentioned funhouse mirrors specifically.

Things have a way of showing up in mirrors that otherwise would have gone unnoticed.

the true self has no physical appearance nor form.

mirrors are an interesting optical phenomina.

other then reversing it from left to right, the do give a pretty good idea what someone else sees when the look at your outward physical form,

(or more accurately i suppose, what its covered in) ,which, assuming you and they are awake at the same time in the same physical universe,

will be what there is for them to see of us.

now of course they might be looking at the seats on the bus, or out the window at the other traffic, houses, stores, trees and the rest of everything that is out there.

i know i almost always am, even if you think its you i'm looking at.

Neat post. I don't think I'd ever heard what you wrote about dressing room mirrors.

I actually got a few pictures taken of me yesterday evening. -- I did indeed look different in them than I do in mirrors.
