You Enjoyed It?

When we eat some delicious food, we usually say "I really enjoyed that!"

But surely this is ass backwards. The food "Enjoyed you!" It gave "you" joy, you did not impart joy to it.

So I now say "That really enjoyed me."

 

Whoops wrong subject. Never mind me.

different languages do this different ways.
i've never been good at learning them,
other then when i was an infant learning to talk at all,
but i've encountered this.

 

To enjoy a thing pre-supposes awareness of the thing. Food isn't aware, so I think it is probably not able to enjoy anything.

The word 'enjoy' doesn't really mean 'to give pleasure to' or 'to put joy into'.

 

My microwave says "enjoy your meal" when it's done cooking. Seeing as my microwave is never wrong....
