Today I decided that it was high time I got my hair cut. I decided also to go in to the salon barefoot. No one bothered me about it, but my stylist just said, "I hope the pavement isn't too hot for your feet." Good to know I won't get a bunch of harassment for my feet.

So what, then, you're the site-wide nay-sayer? Nearly every post I've made, you've been quick to denounce it in some way or another. Yes, for me it's a big deal, it's my first real barefoot in public experience. I've had small other ones before, but this was a big step for me.

Just curious as to why you think being barefoot in public is some big thing.. Maybe it's because of where I live or maybe i've just gotten lucky but literally no one gives two shits if I don't have shoes on or not.

Quite possibly, yes. You're either lucky, or just no one really cares as long as they get your business.

Do you live in a 'conservative' area you would say?

Yes, but maybe a better description would be red neck, which is pretty conservative, usually.

I have done this for years, I find it to make the experience very relaxing, especially the shampoo.

I used to visit salons for pedicures many years ago, but now prefer to simply self-administer, since I'm incredibly particular over the shape of my nails and overall presentation of my feet. Furthermore, I was never overly enthusiastic about the use of metal blades to remove dead skin, for many reasons. However, since I'm incredibly partial to a thoroughly good foot massage, I do frequent the salon for such a thing.

That said, out of consideration for the therapist, I'll always ensure that my soles are scrubbed clean before-hand, arriving at the salon with either a pair of Havaianas or Vivo Eclipse adorning my feet. As much as some may enjoy the thrill and the experience of getting their soles as dirty as they're able, despite our lifestyle, we all ought to be considerate of others when expecting them to treat our feet, not least in a vanilla setting.

Curiosity and remarks on behalf the therapist may arise during treatment, particularly with regard to strength and prominence possessed by soft tissue in the feet, ankles and lower legs, presenting the opportunity for a conversation regarding a barefoot lifestyle to be conducted. However, only through inquisition should explanation be offered.

Despite a relaxation in attitude to many things in the 21st Century, consider how feet, and those who possess a love for them, continue to be viewed by conformists.

Concerning the OP, it's great to hear that you summoned the courage to visit the salon in your bare feet earlier today, since doing so will have no doubt boosted self-confidence to continue barefooting in public places. Upon the occasional questioning over your lack of footwear, simply explain that you're a barefoot runner, so progressive toughening of your soles is necessary, thus, allowing greater distances to be covered barefoot.

It doesn't necessarily matter that you may not be, since those who enquire are likely to be non-the-wiser.

Nothing like a cute nail tech telling you to take your shoes and socks off and giving you a pedicure!!
