A cloudy day could mess this all up for a LOT of people

Around here, it's just forest fire smoke and air pollution. When the smoke gets thick enough, it blocks all the UV radiation you can see the sun without glasses. And sometimes you can see visible sun spots.

If the forest fire smoke gets thick enough, it might be kind of cool to see what an eclipse looks like through the smoke.

Even if it's cloudy, it will get dark out. You just can't see why...

Under the path of totality back in 1994, the skies were completely clear along the Canadian border
but we were ready to move at a moment’s notice if the forecast changed.

    You’ve gotta have a plan B [IMG]

I'm looking forward to this. I've been hearing a lot about this recently. Think I heard there was a meteor shower in August too.

Make sure nobody looks directly at it, lol!

It's going to be 93% at my zip code, but I'm thinking about driving up to the mountains just in case it's cloudy that morning.

I saw an annular solar eclipse once and it was fascinating, a total must be awesome.
In an annular eclipse the moon is farther away so a ring or partial ring of the Sun is still visible as the disk of the moon appears smaller than the disk of the Sun.

We used welding glasses. Or you can reflect the image on a piece of paper with a pinhole type setup.

The sky grows dark, in my case almost as dark as the darkest night, but not quite. The temperature dropped about 20 degrees F in a few minutes, the wind will start to blow as the air cools, the stars come out, and animals may react, then it gradually reverses itself.

We'll only get a 75 to 80% coverage this time.

Years ago, a lady at a planetarium asked the director 'if the sun is star, why can't we see it at night?' :D

I've seen a partial solar eclipse using the pinhole paper method once. But I'm looking forward to this one for sure.

The Meteor shower which was very impressive was last weekend, I too am looking forward to the eclipse especially with a local forecast of clear skies and plenty of sunshine on Monday.

I just read this for my area; it's from NWS:

As of right now, it looks like we will be dealing with some cloud cover and scattered thunderstorms.
