My Tulip tree is doing awesome! When I bought it from Lowe's spring of '16 it was just a scrawny stick; I didn't have much hope honestly. But this year it has thrived and grown almost 2 feet! Some good shade about the time I retire I hope.

 

What is a tulip tree?!? I am intrigued

 

The blooms look like this:



I gather it is in the same family as Magnolia trees. They get VERY tall (150 to 165 ft) and grow fairly fast. I planted it on the west side of my house near my willow oak tree which is only about 4 year old. That's where I really need the shade. My vision is to have two nice shady trees to hang my hammock from when I'm an old dude.

Oh..wow..my neighbors have a mature tulip tree in their yard, we have lived here 3 years and I have always wondered what kind of tree it is. I've always loved their flowers. Thanks for clearing up the mystery!

 

I actually have one in my yard too lol just never knew what it was..it is still a young tree and is dying, we were planning on cutting it down and planting a peach tree in its place

In my backyard I have a little bamboo grove that I call my fort



I have a lounge chair inside where I chill



At the very end of the yard I have shallow creek



When I first moved into this house, my landlord blocked off the creek access with a wire fence. I cut it down with an angle grinder and cleared out the brush to give me access to my creek to meditate



My yellow cherries are ripening



And so are my plums

I grow these stargazers every year.

I can't wait till they bloom. I clip and collect as many as I can. Into the vase they go. The entire main floor of our home smells of Stargazers.



These are almost ready to pop open. Hopefully this weekend. I'll be putting these in the bedroom.

 

These young squirrels are so cute, they're so playful. And skittish. They charge up the tree every time someone goes by. The one on the right is ready to dash back down. He knows there are more peanuts to be had. The one in the crook of the tree isn't sure it's worth the risk.
