You really take me back. I couldn't afford Ludwigs when I started as a drummer and had to settle for Olympics. Dad bought an LP of Lionel Hampton doing great solos (DRUM ROLE) and an extended play (EP), of Buddy Rich playing (inter alia) Hifi Drums, Dad loved Rich because he was ultra-smooth one of the best rolls in the biz. I saw him live in London UK in 1986-ish, having first seen him at the Esquire Show Bar in Montreal years before. I had to give up the drums when I joined the Navy for a couple of years and never went back to them seriously - stuck to the piano, but only playing barrelhouse boogie and blues by ear Does anyone know what a 'barrelhouse' is?
I have a blue pearl Ludwig trap set in my man cave. My Dad bought them for me because I made the senior band in grade 9! Yep, I became a drummer in my first year of high school thanks to all my piano lessons in grade school. I love Buddy Rich too, however, I actually wanted to be a drummer because of Ringo Star and the Beatles! LOL

There was a percussionist named David Earle Johnson who did some work with Jan Hammer in the 70's. Later he ended up suing Hammer for using samples of his rare Nigerian Log Drums on the soundtrack to "Miami Vice" unfortunately Hammer had better lawyers and Johnson lost his case. C/S, Rev J
The last drum I made was first stolen , rescued , lusted for , then given to a deaf man who loves to play . It has a sensuous body , and is ideal as a walk-about little drum of quiet soulful roots jazz .
