I used to be annoyed by them...but that is ALL it was - annoyance.

In the past year, there have been some nice ladies that have stopped by when I've been in the yard and they are JW. They give me their little Watch Tower booklet and that is all. They have never prosthelytized to me and I told him I had a church, if I were to go, and beliefs...but I didn't mind talking to them. They have been nice as pie to me and I've enjoyed talking to them. They don't stay long.

Of course Putin wouldn't want a group around that he couldn't control their beliefs. Same with his anti-gay rhetoric and discrimination. He can't control other people's sexuality...plus, of course, I think there is his very own latent homosexuality he needs to deny, and by hating and discriminating against those living their truth he WINS! ... but that's beside the point.

I don't know why but I find this interesting, particularly in its timing.

I was just spittin' some lyrics. :D

I really don't mind the religious doorknock from any culture at all, I mean I won't take any of it, but if a couple of nice people can give up there own time and try to make at least someone else's life better, even if it with religious if they can do that then I think that's a generous and beautiful thing. :)

All you have to do is politely say no at the beginning if you don't want to listen. I usually listen anyway lol. Though I am not interested which is sad as is referenced like a piece of food or something. Sorry not interested. Lol.

Yeah if they can help one person, good on them.

You young people knowing all kinds of lyrics remind me of how out of it I am...but still I should have known/recognized that for what it was. :D lol smh

Yes, truly Irmi, you are one of the most open-minded, tolerant people (toward people that have beliefs) I've ever come across.

Kudos! and good on you. I think that's yet another reason (it certainly appears) that all in all Karma is good to you.

The thread starter. They probably already did ban/expel him from their own organisation (if he ever really was part of it)

I only caught a short report on NPR.

The phrase that popped out was "land and buildings were confiscated by the government."

What is actually going on, google it and there doesnt seem much in the way of credible news sources reporting this, seems to be mostly ironically socialist sights

JW was founded in america, is this just really about mistrust of anything US related?

the ministry of Justice in Russia labeled Jehovah's Witnesses as extremists with no evidence of any violence and then ban them from practicing their religion

Jesus hasn't pulled up on my curb in a minivan. If he does, I'll invite him in for wine and foot washing.

Other than that, trespassers on my property will be turned away.

you can easily just tell them not to come back and that you're not interested and they'll make sure not to come back at least for a couple years

Yeah, but read between the lines

Apart from muslims in Chechnya, which is a given, crazy fuckers down there.....has their been any type of religious persecution of any other group in Russia other than this US based organization?

You know JW's, Mormons and Scientologists can be sneaky, get into a territory, infiltrate, buy up property and assests, become xenophobic within their ranks

175,000 JW's in Russia apparently, how did they end up owning so much shit?

If it was every kind of religion that wasnt Russian Orthodox, then I'd be like, ok this is about religious freedom

But bullshit, its about money and power, mistrust of the US. They have a religious group that was founded by a traditional enemy getting too much of a foothold inside their territory

Chechnya just ended up being Russias little quasi version of an islamic state

What would happen in the US if an islamic denomination ended up owning 400 churches and a whole bunch of everyones shit, started to have too much power?

Trump wants at least a trade war with China, because they have way too much influence on the US, and that doesnt even involve religion

Pretty much every country in the world getting too antsy about Chinas power, Russia getting antzy about JW's, its the same kind of stuff, just re-branded

About money and power before religion

They are already reports coming in from Russia about the police harassing Jehovah Witnesses. No matter how they try they will not be able to stop the preaching activity of Jehovah Witnesses. Jehovah Witnesses are willing to die for their beliefs because their faith is that strong and it comes from knowing the Bible and studying the Bible intently and a personal relationship with Jehovah, they have full faith that Jehovah will protect them. Obeying God as ruler, not men.

always does. that's really a large part of how christianity got big, because it really started as a kind of insurgancy against the roman empire.
iran, when it was still persia, hundred and fifty some odd years ago, started treating baha's that way, and baha'u'llah was born there.
