I was on a date with this girl I'm really starting to like. She is an amazing girl who has a lot of things going for her. She has her own brick and mortar store downtown on the main drag. One of the things she said that really inspired me, is how she is very thankful for all the people in her life who told her she couldn't do the things she sought to accomplish for herself. Without those negative people, she says, there oils have been no one to prove wrong.

Throughout my life I both resisted and listened to that very same negative talk negative talk she was mentioning about. When I resisted that negative talk, it caused me to fight harder to succeed. But when I listened to the negative talk, it became a self fulfilling prophecy of failure. Being prompted to prove these assholes wrong can give a person motivation.

This got me thinking, when I succeed at my next goal, I am going to reach out to my professor who said he didn't think I could live out my dream, and thank him for giving me the encouragement to prove him wrong, and more people like him.

Have any of you ever thanked someone who doubted you, and proved them wrong?

some things take multiple people, even cultural movements, to be brought into being.
however good you might be at organizing people, you do need people willing to be organized, to create things like infrastructure.

your imagination on the other paw, need not be limited by nor to the familiar ambiance.
and there are a lot making and building things a person can do on their own.

but historians give way to much credit to someone who makes a speach, or takes credit,
for where a populist movement and emergant cultural perception had already arrived at.

or even someone, however smart of wise they might be as an individual,
who assembles a staff of very smart people,
and then takes or is given, credit for what those who do their intellectual grunt work,
    come up with.

her response was "wow id thought youd be in jail"...what a shit thing to say...i just casually walked away from that bitch without saying another word...i may have been an annoying Calvin type smartass when i was younger but have no idea why she said the jail thing

btw i have no record at all and have never been in trouble with the law

there was another guy that had no faith in me..he was a school principal and is longtime dead and buried :)

i really don't remember ever having any doubters. excessive encouragement and people telling me i should be accomplishing things that i didn't even care to do, sure, but no doubters. i don't know if it's because i ignored the doubters, blocked them out, just forgot about them, or if there never were doubters. if there weren't doubters, i don't know if it's because i'm part of the "you can do anything" generation or if it's just because i'm really that fucking great. i assume i'm just that fucking great.

    Hmmm

I dunno about doubters but I've always had people who never wished me well. :)

I wipe away tears when I think of them, with fat stacks of dollar bills :sifone:

That is pretty shitty. If someone came up to you with a friendly attitude, and you said something like that to them (and not as a joke), you'd either have to have kept a really big grudge about something, or be a total asshole

a teacher in high school told me to quit school, basically because i wanted to go to my locker during study hall.

then i graduated 2nd in my class and now i have a PhD. his stupid comment didn't really motivate me to succeed, but my success makes his comment make him look even more like an asshole :)

Are you using your degree though? :D

See I finished my university degree and never used it. =p but nobody said I couldn't do it and in fact I was so good at what I was doing I finished my university degree 2 years early because I had put in so much effort during high school they awarded my 11&12 grade classes as two years worth of university. So I only went to university for a little while and came out with a sports medicine degree. :)

I forget all that too was like a decade ago, except the practical work like I can bandage up and strap someone with a broken leg and they'll be playing football that afternoon... maybe 6months away. =p

it isn't what others SAY, its what kind of world we create for them AND ourselves.
and that is best served by consideration, logic and honesty,
    regardless of unpopularity and impoverishment,
neither of which are inevitable either.

i do not judge what is possible, the unknown imposes no limitations.
the living organism may have, though often exaggerated both over and under,
    but the unknown does not.

this whole idea, it makes no sense, to take a statistical universe personally.
a statistic is a real thing among a large population,
but it isn't an absolute in an individual's life.

if enough people don't like something, they can get someone in trouble on no other basis,
that is the only reason i can think of to be all that dramatically emotionally affected by what any one other person says.

that's just the unwisedom of taking too personal of a perspective.

I prefer to simply just succeed. If I am going to do something, I am going to do it--and don't pay much mind to outside influence.

Yes, with my fist under their nose. ;) JK most people actually assume I'm a pacifist (they're wrong though, i generally just can't be bothered 'solving' stuff that way)
Besides, most people who doubted me and told me in person had some kind of point. Like yeah, im not suited to teach 30 kids at once, i agree 100% (now) :p It's not like they doubted my whole being. It probably feels good proving them wrong but it would really depend on the person if i would do so. Like... some professor i never see anymore? Who cares, i don't.

I never tried to prove anything to anyone.
I do what I want and don't care much about what others (especially those who are irrelevant to me) think or say.

It all seems so petty, tbh. But whatever gets someone going, I guess.

Last stanza of the Benny Hill poem about perseverance and success in spite of what everyone else says.

There were some who said it could not be done.
    Others said they knew it.
But he set out to do what could not be done.
AND HE COULDN'T BLOODY DO IT!!!

    :)
