No doubt this game will be capable of 4k resolutions at 60hz on a beefy enough PC, and require a decent computer, which I don't have, but the graphics look pretty damned good for this Star Wars fan. Pre-ordering games is stupid, but we're all stupid at times. Thankfully, this is Lucas Arts instead of some company like EA that would steal candy from a baby if given half a chance. The worst Lucas Arts might do is put out a game that's just not that much fun and we'll just have to wait and see how much fun this one might be. These games will have a variety of game play including personal combat and flying different spacecraft into battles and people will just have to wait and see if anyone likes the arcade style action.

With a little tweaking a good Ai program could easily improve the design of the arcade action which is something I expect to see more of in the next generation or two of video games simply because the competition to include the latest and greatest technology is what drives the industry. Vr in particular has proven great for arcade style flying, racing, and mech warrior games where you just sit in the cockpit or take a third person perspective, but to accomplish it well requires 4k resolutions and 90fps per eye which is expensive to do right now. However, plans are already in place and within three years the major consoles like XBox and Playstation will be powerful enough to produce that and even render additional real time ray tracing or global illumination. Ray traced lighting means the newer QLED monitors coming on the market might eventually render games like this with as much as 3,000 nits of brightness making it look like you are actually starring out the window of a car or cockpit, providing ultra realistic 3D effects that don't make you sick where you can just move your head around if you want and the monitor will track wherever you look as if you are literally staring through a window. Ray tracing will also provide great new Ai such as characters staring you directly in the eyes and responding appropriately as if you are actually talking to someone in front of you.

Notably, this developing trend in the industry of these kinds of high powered effects being capable in a cheap console has attracted Hollywood's attention and prompted some of the most well know programmers in the business to form their own company dedicated to exploring its potential for the porn industry. Again, we'll just have to wait and see exactly what becomes popular because the porn industry isn't exactly famous for realism, however, Hollywood directors might make significant contributions to the newly emerging medium.

Yeah, I prefer arcade style games myself and the original "Rogue Squadron" by Factor Five studios was one of my favorites. The entire game is just dog fighting with spaceships, but is more fun than a barrel full of monkeys with a joystick. Like a roller coaster ride without any tracks. Lucas Arts came out with their own sort of version called "Battle for Naboo" where you also get to run around in a speeder that wasn't quite as much pure adrenaline, but quite good. The problem is that Factor Five tweaked all their games in some funky way to run on the older consoles that made them incompatible with PC emulators and, unfortunately, they went belly up and Lucas Arts has just never excelled at providing the same kind of arcade style action.

Its the same complaint gamers everywhere have, that modern games might have eye-popping graphics, but aren't all that much fun to play or particularly challenging. The new Doom is supposed to be a return to form in that way focusing on high speed adrenaline action, as well as, great graphics. Watching someone's hair blow in the wind and looking at pretty pictures and whatnot are all nice, but I don't play video games for realism, but escapism! These days developers talk about "immersion", but they need to talk more about escapism if you ask me.

The former one is a lot of fun online. I expect this one will be as well. Would be great if there was a fun story driven single player campaign. But if it will be as good as i hope I will be getting it just for the online multiplay fun alone already.

  5. I most enjoy the dogfighting games. The VR one I saw looks exciting. I would have...so much fun!??? turning turning floating away floating

The old arcade game with the vector graphics was great. Perhaps the greatest video game ever...made.!

This is the only game I played last 2 months. There's much to nag on, but it is also a lot of fun.
