Seems not many here care for his Bobness. How relevant do you people think his music is in today's World? He forged a unique style and is an undoubtedly original lyricist, but as Joni Mitchell said he never had the greatest voice and was never the greatest player out of all those '60s folk.

Well, he sure as hell got something! Probably the reason he got his award, and still has one hell of a following!

Good job we don't all like the same thing!

    Nothing like choices!

I think Bob Dylan's influence is quite apparent in a fair amount of contemporary music.

My dad was a huge Dylan fan and saw him in concert in the '80s but said it was lousy...Bob seemed like he was in a hurry to get it over with and rushed through it. Plus the crowd was noisy as hell.

I think Dylan is great! I just wanted to talk about him as a person and stuff. I didn't put him down in My post! Just suggesting a fair appraisal, rather than this semi-Jesus worship superstars seem to get...

Ged, it's down to choice.. i remember a time i didn't like Tamla Motown! Now i like some, but have a respect for what it stands for! It's choice my friend, and lucky we are for that....

Not a problem..Your entitled to your opinion! ;)

Always liked Bob -but don't listen to him much these days. He's probably the only singer/songwriter who's ever going to get a Nobel prize for literature.

I found him and the Guthrie's amazing! Guess it was my love of poetry!

But yeah, he deserves it Bill!

Robert Zimmerman, a.k.a. "Bob Dylan" has now produced nearly 50 albums, written hundreds of new songs, and given, alas, thousands of concerts. Yet he is a mere mortal. We sure can see it in his loss of voice, and his weariness. After all he has given us, how can we be upset about his not giving us more?
Now if he were just another musical performer, which he is not, that amount of work and immersion in his work over a lifetime is prodigious.
But Dylan redefined at least the folk and country elements of the American songbook in his own singular way. He wrote songs about just about everything, and because of his intelligence and gifts of composition, he also brought into focus, the troubador's art, skills, and finite insight themselves. In short, no one in Jazz, and many other forms of music will be able to escape the originality of Louis Armstrong. But the same might be said of Robert Zimmerman in the music of the American folk/people. He has, whether we see it or not, touched the lives of hundreds of millions of American in some way, shape or form.
If the text of America's story is to include those who have added to the spirit of our lives in and through music, then Dylan deserved the Nobel prize for literature.

First one is my favorite but the second one (I think) contributed to Ruben "The Hurricane " Carter getting out of prison after being wrongfully convicted...
