Bandwidth is becoming more of an issue with laptops and tablets with the higher resolution of their screens driving the need for them to have more memory and gpu power. Without such high resolution screens your only concern might be how fast the cpu is, but with them how fast the cpu is matters less than overall bandwidth and how well it fits in a tight space. AMD's ability to squeeze the power of something like a PS4 into a single chip requiring 35 volts is enough to gain anybody's attention who enjoys mobile gaming. For those who don't know about such things, a PS4 can deliver very good frame rates and graphics detail by mobile standards. This will be the first SoC chip for a laptop or tablet that has just about all the power your average gamer might want in a laptop, without paying an exorbitant price. Currently, you would need a graphics card in order to get that kind of graphics power in a laptop adding expense and the latest integrated Intel graphics are finally getting reasonable for gamers, but nowhere near this kind of graphics power in a single chip. Intel's response should come onto the market at about the same time this MacBook Pro will and whatever happens, happens at that point, but its nice to see things like this and know that within three years the price of these chips will be half whatever it is when they first come on the market if you remember that Apples are overpriced and you can probably get a better deal buying a Lenovo or whatever.

who cares, laptops suck balls for gaming and Apple Definitely sucks hairy balls all around

when they quit using the motorola processor, Apple lost it's top spot in it's unique niche' which was desktop publishing and graphics.

It depends, While most things can be updated and added, the limiting factor is mostly the amount of RAM that can be supported by the motherboard.
I have seen cases of people adding RAM that is doing absolutely nothing.

Apple merely customizes everything they make, but the newest notebooks they make have their own ARM chips, that could mean they are interested in making their own hardware again, and selling more computers. Their sales have slumped in the last few years, and AI will inevitably make even their operating systems obsolete.
