Tires were originally made of wood, and condoms were made from sheep guts. Some people miss the sheep.

    wheels may have been wood

but early tires were actually steel bands...

Steel bands are great, but they don't have any bass.

not too hard to imagine, it wasn't more then a few hundred years ago that it was first vulcanized.
at least not by oh so advanced european cultures.
of course there was at least one western hemisphere indginous culture already doing so before they arrived.
i forget which one. one of the north pacific ocean hunting ones.

I read a bit a while back about the treatment of the people who worked the rubber plantations in africa

Not sure if this is still going on or if the industry has evolved into something more humane, anyone know?

Its really too bad everything that "advances" us as a human race or makes life easier comes at the expense of immense human suffering.

Taking the guts out of the sheep first was a big leap forward.

The name Super Bowl was coined after the Super Ball so without the invention of synthetic rubber there would be no Super Bowl.

it would still be called the nfl championship game and the browns would still be able to claim a bunch of victories instead of 0.

As the crap randomly falls from the sky, only to inevitably bounce and roll downhill, it must have its ups as well as its downs, as all good things must return to the earth in good time, but the most interesting things will always grow out of manure.
