Hubby was complaining of some ants so I gave them some coffee grounds to munch on. That's supposed to kill them. We'll see.

Hubby put the tripod up for the sweet peas. They are going to look gorgeous climbing up that.

We've got to rig some inexpensive way to keep cats and little dogs from digging on top of the hay bales. That will definitely be picture time.

Sounds interesting and amazing to plant Broccoli in such method, I also want to try! And I think, water and sunshine both important to help them grow, isn't it?

it is interesting. We have a few bales not planted because the bag of fertilizer didn't ever heat up the bales. Faulty fertilizer I believe.

I might give the hay bale garden a try next year. I have a small raised bed for early vegs. So nice But used railroad ties. Regular garden started out wet, and was hard to weed. no problem, with the raised bed. Midwest started out wet, now dry.

I thought hubby said he wasn't going to use the two bales that he didn't think heated up properly, but he is. He will be putting tomatoes in them.

Some of the beets and onions are getting pretty big.

Hubby says there's tiny head of broccoli and a tiny ear of corn.

We are thinking of trying the hay bale garden next year, are you having pretty good luck with it?

The only place in our yard that really gets full sun is the front yard but the lawn is really pretty, I hate to till it up. So we would have to do raised beds or something like this. Hay bales seem like less work than constructing raised beds and filling them with soil.

Yes, the things that are in the hay bales are really happy! Just keep in mind that your grass will die wherever you sit a hay bale on it.

I'll get pics. I just have to dump some junk off my camera card.

I guess the hay bales, only last 1 year. Do you turn them into compost, after that? I love the idea of no bending over.

Yes, correct. They will make great compost for raised beds, etc.
