I've done some surfing online for info on using a violin bow on my electric guitar, like Jimmy Page used to. There is some interesting information on this.

Has anyone else tried this? How did it go?

Another question...are there "unwound" strings that can be used on the lower three strings- E, A, and D. I remember when I could get D strings that were unwound, but couldn't find them recently. I'm thinking possibly banjo strings (?) The guitar I'll be using this on is a small 3/4 scale, should make it easier. Smaller, less weight. And using a Trem pedal instead of a whammy.

Joey Santiago from Pixies uses a violin onstage.I seen him in a DVD doing it and it sounds like fun.Never tried it myself - never had a bow.As for your second question I don't know,it's not something I've ever gone in to.

Maybe not a violin bow. Guitar strings are too thick for them to handle. Try something heavier, like a cello or bass bow.
