    Whatever happened to "States' Rights"?
I seem to remember it was a big deal with the right a few years back.

Trump's former head of the Veteran's Administration warns of Trump's attempt to privatize the VA.
    That's why he was fired.

Or it won't go that way at all. I think you underestimate how much the left is hated.

"States rights" is used when it's beneficial (states should have the right to pretend science isn't real in schools) and ignored otherwise. It's more a deeply sometimes belief than a deeply held one

It's the same with the big government rhetoric. There are no principles, just opportunism.

ICE is a federal organization. If there are federal laws in place that require ICE to enforce, they have a right and jurisdiction to do so in any state that is part of the US . That supersedes states rights.

This defiance isn't a state right. Some parts of the state are joining the Feds in this.

Orange County may take stand against state's 'sanctuary' laws

So within the state there is going to be a confrontation. Trump can certainly give resources to the defiant parts. I hope he does.

ICE being a federal jurisdiction, can and likely will argue that Ca. is undermining national security. If the courts agree, then yeah federal troops can then be called in. He would probably send them to the defiant locations first.

Obama chose to not subject Colorado to DEA enforcement of marijuana. He had the right to decide that as CIC.

I don't think Trump will feel the same way.

Keep thinking you can decide how to resist without consequence. I hope the resistors find some jail time. It's long overdue.

We are planning a Constitutional Convention to get all these problems ironed out...just you wait and see. The first change will be a repeal of the 2nd Amendment. I hope the second change will be a solid EPA rule to outlaw stinking diesel pickups which haul nothing but bother people.

It's the hate of the left that puts Trump where he is. Many of his supporters don't like all he does they know he's an idiot. But in their mind Hillary is still a threat and he's better. And most said about him is overblown bu the left because they are upset she did not win. It's this kind of blind allegiance that is destroying America. Your tears are all the need. So much invested in "winning" it does not matter how or why.

It's sad to me because even a if person dared vote for Obama they are really exaggerating the situation and that person loves America. No one wants freedoms to be taken away. In some area perhaps they want to reexamine what they mean. Nor is Hillary Clinton or Obama ever going to be a political threat again. They will sometimes be on a late night show or write a book but since those are fake news anyway why do you care? Let them chat about playing gold and visiting France. If you listen to Fox news you would think it's still October 2016. Few Americans are "communist" a term used interchangeably with liberal now. It reminds me of the 1950's Communism=bad America=good. It shows they don't understand what these words mean besides "something I do not agree with".

What's really funny is Hillary isnt even particularly leftist. In any other country she would fall to the right of center. Shes just a typical corporate Democrat, very centrist. As are the majority of Democrats in power. America is not in danger of becoming a far left country anytime soon, we've shifted too far right

The conditions of labor law and environmental law support what you just said. If we had a more leftist Democrat party, environmental protections would be stronger and corporations would have to show some compassion in the area of a living fair wage for workers, and sensible health care too.

Trump was supposed to give a speech about infrastructure in Ohio and ended up doing his 2016 campaign-style, off-topic, carnival barking ramble that lacked facts and was laced with glittering generalities and falsehoods. The TV networks broke away mid-speech. The crowd got quiet in the second half, seeming to show signs of getting tired of the same rhetoric.

All of this ranting is by a person whose medical doctor, Jackson, bragged about him being a mentally stable genius. Jackson was subsequently rewarded by Trump who nominated him to head the $200 billion VA, even though he apparently has no administrative experience.

Trump Infrastructure Speech in Ohio - Lies About the Wall, Bump Stocks, Iraq War

    excerpt:

2:39 p.m. — Trump expresses confusion about all of the judicial vacancies that greeted him upon entering office: “I don’t know why Obama left that. It was like a big beautiful present to all of us. Why the hell did he leave it?"

There were so many vacancies because Republicans embarked on an unprecedented campaign of obstruction to block Obama from carrying out his constitutional duty to appoint federal judges. Again, these are things the president could find out if he weren't fundamentally incurious about the world.

Trump is still confusing community colleges with vocational and training schools. He's touted as being ahead of everyone, yet he talks as if he's in the 1940's.

He's also still claiming that ISIS took the Iraq oil and that the U.S. should have stolen it, just as he did in his embarrassing speech in 2017 in front the wall of fallen CIA agents.

Trump’s Ohio speech to promote infrastructure ranges widely, from North Korea to ‘Roseanne’

“I don’t know what that means, a community college,” Trump said at one point. “Call it vocational and technical. People know what that means. They don’t know what a community college means.”

The act of Trump placing tariffs on imported washing machines and calling upon community colleges to change their name to 'vocational schools' isn't going to stop China's continued rise to dominate the high tech industries. Neither is Trump's pulling out of the TPP, which would have given the U.S. leverage with its allies in the Asian region to compete with China.

China has already overtaken in high tech Japan and the U.S. is next.

Robert Lighthizer, Trump's USTR, is in a 1940's mindset, much the same as Trump and his Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, the steel tariff proponent. During his speech in PA to get Saccone elected (which failed), Trump promised the people in PA that 'It's all coming back', referring to the U.S. steel production industry and jobs that he mistakenly thinks will return to how it was in the post-WWII era.

Expect Trump to impose another string of tariffs on China to try to thwart its ongoing rise in hi-tech dominance while he tries to score some talking points in the rust belt by telling the public that the whole coal and steelmaking industries are coming back. It's like Wile E. Coyote opening up his umbrella to try to stop from being crushed by the 100-ton falling boulder.

    See Lighthizer's 'brilliant' deduction below.

    excerpt:

"These are things that if China dominates the world, it’s bad for America," U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer told a Senate committee this month.

Looking at history, the general public, courts, and Congress didn't rally around Gerald Ford in the wake of the Nixon scandals for the sake of hating and spiting a particular group that Nixon didn't like. The general public and the government transended party politics in that situation in the name of protecting the Constitution. Pence isn't likely to get any different treatment if a similar situation arises.

The losses by Republicans in special elections, including what were in 2016 highly pro-Trump districts, aren't making the situation look any better for Pence in the event that a Nixon-like situation occurs.

The phrase 'but then you'll have to deal with Pence' hasn't fully appreciated these facts.

From Mueller to Stormy to ‘emoluments,’ Trump’s business is under siege
By Jonathan O'Connell and David A. Fahrenthold

From Mueller to Stormy to ‘emoluments,’ Trump’s business is under siege

    From the article:

"And in the most direct assault, the District and Maryland have sued Trump, alleging that he is improperly accepting gifts, or “emoluments,” from foreign or state governments through his businesses, including his hotels. A federal judge ruled Wednesday that the case can proceed, opening the way for the plaintiffs to seek at least a portion of Trump’s tax returns, which the president has refused to release.

“I think under pretty much any reading of the judge’s order, we can get discovery of his personal financial information in that it relates to payments from foreign and domestic governments,” Maryland Attorney General Brian E. Frosh (D) said. He and D.C. Attorney General Karl A. Racine (D) also plan to seek other documents related to the president’s D.C. hotel.

The inquiries are exposing the risks Trump took on when he made the decision to maintain ownership of the company that bears his name while serving in the White House — a departure from 40 years of presidential tradition and the advice of ethics officials. Previous presidents have chosen to fully divest their assets. When Trump took office, he instead put his stake in his company into a trust managed by his sons, accessible to him at any time.

Now, what initially seemed like a plum arrangement for Trump — enjoying the fruits of his business while running the country — may come back to harm the Trump Organization if it is forced to reveal the kind of financial information and private correspondence that real estate firms closely guard."

Trump remark during the 2016 campaign:

“I pay hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes, but, but as soon as my routine audit is finished I’ll release my returns. I’ll be very proud to.”

Donald Trump considered using national guard to round up immigrants, memo suggests
Draft memo calls for unprecedented militarization of immigration enforcement, including targeting undocumented people nowhere near Mexican border

Donald Trump considered using national guard to round up immigrants, memo suggests

    From the article:

"While national guard personnel have been used to assist with immigration-related missions on the US-Mexico border before, they have never been used as broadly or as far north as the memo proposes.

The memo is addressed to the then acting heads of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) and US Customs and Border Protection. It would serve as guidance to implement the wide-ranging executive order on immigration and border security that Donald Trump signed on 25 January. Such memos are routinely issued to supplement executive orders.

Also dated 25 January, the draft memo says participating troops would be authorized “to perform the functions of an immigration officer in relation to the investigation, apprehension and detention of aliens in the United States”. It describes how the troops would be activated under a revived state-federal partnership program, and states that personnel would be authorized to conduct searches and identify and arrest any unauthorized immigrants."
