I am surprised that there are no threads on the No DAPL Protests.

This is the largest gathering of Native American tribes in well over 100 years. With chants such as Water Is Life! they are fighting the construction of a pipeline across a river that provides drinking water to one of the Sioux Reservations, and through their sacred lands.

I am pretty active in the Native community here in Denver, in part through a small Native non-profit organization that I am a board member of (I am the token white boy). I have many friends that are up in North Dakota protesting right now, and many others that have organized protests down here in Denver.

The construction was brought to court, but the court did not rule in their favor. Obama said he would not authorize further construction, but a closer look at his statement and the situation with the Army Corps of Engineers suggests that he may have just been extending time to allow tensions to ease up so that the construction could continue. It is hard to say.

Meanwhile a Security firm was hired which sprayed protesters with pepper spray and brought in dogs, some of which were allowed to bite protesters including women and children.

The National Guard has been called out and they set up checkpoints with the State Patrol and appear to be limiting access. The state of North Dakota took away their water and their toilets, but the Indians are bringing in their own. More troops are headed out there, even though this is, always has been, and always will be a peaceful protest. The National Guard is claiming they are building up troops to protect everyone----but then why are they needing guns and tanks and so forth? (Any of us old Hippies should remember what the National Guard did at Kent State!)

If you can get up there and help support, they will gladly welcome you and feed you in any of the camps. If you can donate or support the cause, I believe you can find links with the hashtag, #NDAPL or #No DAPL.

But why is everyone so quiet on this? Where are the threads on this protest?

The topic has come up in the Stoners Lounge, but nobody has started a thread other than this one.

I would love to join the protest if I lived in the region

This not only affects tribal lands, a spill would threaten the water supply for millions of people. No big deal I guess, the human body can survive for 2 whole days without it so why bother to protect it. Not like it's a precious resource or anything.

I don't talk about everything on Hip Forums.

I have other groups that discuss and support various causes.

Some of you might be surprised but most of you wouldn't.

^^^ Media wasn't carrying this at first... hoping it would blow over and be too late to do anything before anybody knew about it.

I don't know how correct this is, but I read that almost every major pipeline crosses over Native land, yet they come no where near golf courses, suburban parks, churches, etc.
