Amma (aka, "the hugging saint") will tour Europe Oct 11-Nov 17

Here is a link to wikipedia article about her
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mata_Amritanandamayi

    The complete tour schedule
    http://www.amma-europe.org/ammas-tour.html

    The Amma homepage
    http://amma.org/

I think there is an article about her in the New York Times, and also at least one in Vice.

I first saw her last year, and had a powerful experience.

I don't know that much about Amma, but I'd be happy to try to answer any questions you might have about her.

These are the cities and the dates

    London, Oct 11-12
    Dublin, Oct 14-15
    Houten, Netherlands, Oct 17-19
    Winterthur, Switzerland, Oct 21-23
    Paris, Oct 26-28
    Frankfurt, Oct 30-Nov 1
    Barcelona, Nov 3-5
    Toulon, Nov 7-9
    Milano, Nov 11-13
    Munich, Nov 15-17

I think the Darshan (aka, the hug) line usually goes all night and into the late morning, so you Brits that have any interest in seeing her still have a chance. At some point though, they stop giving out tokens for the line though, and I'm not sure when that happens.

I think the Darshan line going all night applies to the whole tour as far as I know.

Be warned that the lines are often long, though Darshan (aka the hug) is free, and so is being at the event.

Just being there is great even if you don't get Darshan, imho.

Off the top of my head, it's a blessing from a Guru. From a conventional perspective, it's a meet and greet with a Guru.

It's characteristic of Amma's darshan to give hugs.

well, you have traditional hinduism versus neo-guru-in-the-west hindmercialism

originally darshan was not seeing some fucking guru but getting to see the deva during a ceremony

'sight' - so technically darshan of ammachi is seeing her from close up or a distance - but the mamamama huggy wuggy shit is not darshan

it's a form of i forget the term - impression - indoctrination, etc - i forget - you do know her best meditation technique the 'i am' thing is basically just using 'im' the saraswati bija 'i' plus 'm' a shakti bija being feminine

unfortunately she didn't get her lessons from pr sarkar about the necessity for a silent mantra to have a beat so im should really be ima to entrain the mind if you are a kundalini yogi

it's not amma's fault women aren't allowed into inner vedic cults

only some sri vidya and she didn't study sri vidya

that's my take, thanks for asking

this was boring people know so little about whom they worship as gods

I don't really know much about Amma other than from a documentary I watched about her a few years ago. I'm always a little bit suspicious when I see western people dressing up as Indians, but otherwise seemed pretty harmless.

My intention in making this thread was to announce Amma's European Tour and to provide some background information to those not familiar with her. Some other issues about Amma have been raised here, but a general discussion thread about Amma already exists. Perhaps I will post on that thread soon.

the op doesn't own the thread - just as the artist doesn't own their art once if has been sold - you say the piece d'art is a woman with a smile, i say it's a evil worshipper of nyarlothep - maybe that's why i like it

Chodpa, if you would like to pontificate about Amma, IAM (Integrated Amrita Meditation), or Amma's darshan, my advice to you is to see her with your own eyes, practice her meditation yourself, and receive her darshan yourself. That way your pontificating will surely only become even more impressive than it is now.

Do Amma's followers believe in courtesy? Clearly followers of some very august traditions don't.

Who here is a follower? I play by my own rules.

If someone can't take a spoonful of what they dish out with a ladle, I see no apologies I need to make.

Many paths that stem from Hinduism, which Amma certainly does, say you need to surrender and give up the ego with it's rules and everything else.
