As has been pointed out already, the 'gargling' sound that would come forth from that is more a black metal characteristic.
Melodic death metal, typical death metal vocals mixed with 'clean' vocals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8o3oAt9Db8 This band crossed over from death metal to a death/doom metal crossover and then went on in the progressive direction. This song is from their death/doom days.
Cannibal Corpse is personally my favorite death metal band of all time. The album Tomb Of The Mutilated turned me onto it when Ace Ventura movie came out. Yeah, then there's Morbid Angel, Deicide and Cryptopsy back then. Then slam death metal came out by Suffocation and Internal Bleeding in 94. From then on, bands like Devourment, Lividity and Defeated Sanity kind of been my go to for death metal. It is a pretty interesting genre full of sub genres and stories of being the most brutal and intense band around.
