    So it seems Melania Trump plagiarized Michelle's 2008 convention speech about her husband. Some parts are word for word.

    Apparently the values she was taught as a child did not include using your own words when writing a speech or at least acknowledge the original writer when using the exact words of someone else.

    The sentiment is generic enough and the passage short enough that any claim of plagiarism is insignificant.

    It's obvious that the motive for pointing this out is political.

    Democrats and Republicans both make spurious partisan attacks. What's amazing to me is that some people seem to be so deep into partisanship that they don't recognize spurious partisan attacks for what they are.

    I listened to both speeches, Obama's and Trump's. There were at least five places or sentences that were exactly identical, word for word. If that's not a case of plagiarism, I should have my PHD by mail in a few days.

    There is no question that this was plagiarism.


    Trump's speech could be an example of mosaic plagiarism, inadequate paraphrasing, or uncited paraphrasing...in my opinion. ~ Harvard Guide to Using Sources

    The reason to point this out is that it shows the carelessness and disregard for the truth that is rampant in Trump's campaign. Melania clearly didn't write this speech herself and didn't know she was plagiarizing...she was reading a script. But her speech writers obviously looked at Michelle's speech and used parts of it without even taking the time or effort to try and paraphrase her ideas. It shows the high regard they hold for their audience. They assumed they could just pass this off and no one would notice! This is not a minor issue, it speaks to Donald Trump's entire modus operandi, lie, steal, and cheat, and then claim the other side is at fault. He's been doing this to Hillary and his rivals all year.

    So the Republican Presidential campaign plagiarizes the past Presidential campaign of the current President and it's the Democrat's fault for calling attention to it!
    How dare they!

    By your definition, if Obama said "God bless America!", and did not site a source, he would be a plagiarist, as he would not be the first to use those exact same words. Likewise, was Michelle Obama the first person to ever say, "your word is your bond", or "treat people with respect"? These are generic sentiments that are part of common parlance. There is no court in the country that would uphold any claim of plagiarism based on the quote you cited.

    I would be absolutely unsurprised if Michele Obama's speech was studied and similarities deliberately added. Just enough to get people talking, but well below the level where legal action could be taken.

    Donald Trump's entire modus operandi during this political campaign is to say and do completely outrageous shit which is nonetheless clearly legal. Then everyone starts talking about the outrageous shit that Trump has done, he gets lots of free press, and his poll numbers go up.

    You are getting Trump trolled.

    I'm not sure if you've listened to either speech or you would realize parts of it were word for word the same. Eerie coincidence, or not.

    But i do agree Trump is a troll and this is trivial, trivial at least compared to the fact that this empty,narcissistic bobblehead could be our next president. Yikes!

    Well, I've written a lot of research papers in my day. Read a lot, corrected a lot. Wrote a Master's paper, two Federal grants, and worked in editing and printing for over ten years...I thought I knew what plagiarism was.

    If standing up for what is right is being Trump trolled then I guess I am and always will be.
