I'd post his Brut commercial from the 1970's but it doesn't seem to be on the web anywhere.

    Float like a butterfly
    sting like a bee
    the great smell of Brut
    and the punch of Ali

    :)

" black peoples enemies ain't over there. They're here."

"ain't no Congs ever called me ******." This one I heard long ago, but the media will not put it forward. Doubt if many even remember this.

Had he not contracted Parkinsons, I believe he would have been on the world stage in an active way all these years. A good way.
I remember the virulent attacks on him by the right every time he spoke. Didn't deter him, of course. He loved jerking their chains, which is still pretty easy to do.
It was a different world in the the 50s,60s, which shows how brave he actually was to poke at the jingoists, their domino theory and the overt racism still going strong in this country.

That is pretty bizarre...I never heard of the berenstain bears before a sale this year on free day a couple of weeks ago, when I grabbed tons of books for free and as well as a pile of the berenstain books. I am planning to give them to my neighbor's little girl . I may read a few first to see what they are all about. The titles looked interesting. Maybe someone spelled it wrongly, or something, those weird spelled berenstein days.....

Speaking of boxers, I did not realize Joe Frasier had died until today.

One of my favorite moments from the 1996 Olympics.

People thought that Nelson Mandela died in prison? I distinctly remember seeing footage of him being released, running for office, being sworn in as South Africa's first black President, not being re-elected for a second (or maybe third) term, and getting divorced from his wife. Such a bittersweet story. Once he was on his deathbed, it took forever for him to die. Every important person in the universe went to his funeral. I don't know how anybody could keep up with current events and not know all this.

He was great when he was young...

He didn’t really die of old age he died from septic shock which is not only common, but it contributes to half of the hospital in-patient deaths in the united states.

He suffered from a neurological disease and the body’s immune response to an infection essentially killed him.

BTW he fought twice in Canada the first time in 1966 at Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens and in 1972 at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver.

I can see 222 this leap year.

    2 singers/actors
    2 fighters
    2 coaches

^These are which made the news. Sequence of events of deaths = a count down in symbolic communications by the gods. The end of the count down lands on the 4th (Independence day).

Get ready for a big supernatural surprize!

Ali was a hero of mine when I was a kid. Back then, it was unheard of. A white kid admiring a black man.

I love this saying of his.... [IMG]

He was asked in an interview how he would like to be remembered and he replied thus in a poetic manner....

I’d like for them to say
He took a few cups of love.
He took one table spoon of patience.
One table spoon, tea-spoon of generosity.
    One pint of kindness.
He took one quart of laughter.
    One pinch of concern.
And then he mixed willingness with happiness.
    He added lots of faith.
And he stirred it up well.
Then he spread it over a span of a lifetime.
And he served it to each and every deserving person he met.

There is so much of wisdom and heartfelt love in this reply of his overflowing with sweetness. :chef:
