This music video is the best thing Glenn Frey had ever done. Pure 80s awesomeness from the Miami Vice soundtrack.

It's very sad. I went to school with Don Felder's son Cody so the Eagles have been a band I've held close to my heart since around 1994. Sad.

    Don Henley's words....

    "
He was like a brother to me; we were family, and like most families, there was some dysfunction. But, the bond we forged 45 years ago was never broken, even during the 14 years that the Eagles were dissolved. We were two young men who made the pilgrimage to Los Angeles with the same dream: to make our mark in the music industry -- and with perseverance, a deep love of music, our alliance with other great musicians and our manager, Irving Azoff, we built something that has lasted longer than anyone could have dreamed. But, Glenn was the one who started it all. He was the spark plug, the man with the plan. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of popular music and a work ethic that wouldn't quit. He was funny, bullheaded, mercurial, generous, deeply talented and driven. He loved is wife and kids more than anything. We are all in a state of shock, disbelief and profound sorrow. We brought our two-year 'History of the Eagles Tour' to a triumphant close at the end of July and now he is gone. I'm not sure I believe in fate, but I know that crossing paths with Glenn Lewis Frey in 1970 changed my life forever, and it eventually had an impact on the lives of millions of other people all over the planet. It will be very strange going forward in a world without him in it. But, I will be grateful, every day, that he was in my life. Rest in peace, my brother. You did what you set out to do, and then some."

Freaked me out when I read this:

"He died in New York City on Monday from complications arising from rheumatoid arthritis, colitis and pneumonia"

    Colitis? Seriously

The warm smell of colitis, rising up through the air

Wow, still not done mourning Bowie and now this!

Reminds me of 1970/71, when our music idols died one after another...

At least now it's more like old age instead of O.D.s

Glenn Frey wrote great music that appealed to everyone.

He will be missed by millions...

This is one of those losses that's so big that it's taking a while for the magnitude of it to fully sink in. Who can imagine what the late seventies and early eighties would have been like without the Eagles? I can't. Their music defined that time in America more than anything else.

In my mind, the ultimate California experience is cruising along the coast highway, California #1, in a Mustang convertible with the top down on a sunny day, and the Eagles greatest hits blasting on the CD player. I've been lucky enough to do that exactly once.

One other time, we were cruising down that beautiful mountain road on a cooler day near Big Sur and the FM station we were listening to played a block of Eagles, Journey, and Jefferson Starship. My husband said, "Damn, this station plays nothing but local bands." [IMG]

I know that Glenn can never be replaced, but I do hope that the Eagles will perform again someday. He would not want his music to die with him, in any way at all. He was one half of one of the most successful songwriting duos of all time, and the Eagle can still fly as long as Don Henley is alive, just as Paul McCartney carries the banner for the Beatles. It's the best way to honor the dead, and the fans. Timothy Schmit should be able to handle most of Glenn's vocals, especially the smooth duets with Henley. Joe Walsh, now the second Eagle in seniority, is a better sub for Don.

Sorry to hear this today. Always loved the Eagles songs as well as solo stuff from Glen + Don. Desperado a real classic covered by so many artists such as Linda Rondstadt, Johnny Cash + Randy Crawford.

Good to hear so many Eagles songs on the radio today as well as solo work.

    RIP Glen Frey

A lot of really good memories are tied to their songs and their sound. Signature of the band and also the individual members as it was one of the few bands that all members had their time in the spotlight. Solo careers were there also for all of them but when they did reunite it was the same magic.

    RIP

Yes, i agree that this is an awesome, exciting sounding song and piece of music, but the Eagles never put me to sleep. they may have soothed me at times with some of their songs, so in a sense lulling me....but not out of boredom ever. I watched the entire live almost 3 hours farewell concert I posted here yesterday. truly genius in every aspect.....there is and was much brilliant talent with the Eagles.....They always touched my heart.
