I understand where you are coming from and I struggled with these same thoughts. Think about this, what kind of people were killed by God? Imagine if you and your family were out for a leisurely hike and you encountered a bear and was gonna eat your family, but you picked up a rock and threw it at the bear and killed it, how would your family view you? Killer or hero?
Yes, those are all horrible translations of the original texts. Man has manipulated and twisted the words. The bible says: Therefore, beloved ones, since you are awaiting these things, do your utmost to be found finally by him spotless and unblemished and in peace. Furthermore, consider the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote you according to the wisdom given him, speaking about these things as he does in all his letters. However, some things in them are hard to understand, and these things the ignorant and unstable are twisting, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.
You admit that your sacred book has "horrible translations of the original texts," so why do you continue to quote from a horrible translation? Are you a master theologian? You also disregarded everything I said. Your sacred book speaks of a "strong delusion," ever stop to think if you're part of it or not?
If you didn't observe or write these things it is hearsay. Mastery is to pick it up or lay it down at will.
If you want thoughts,, to make this language meaningful it need be told in terms that are meaningful to the modern person. Devil means slanderer. It is a symbol, not an entity, for the propensity of man to slander everything around him. To judge a situation or a person as unworthy. You cannot love what you consider unworthy and in fact you would rather be rid of it. And so our war against reality begins. It is said that satan appears as an angel of light and in turn it can be said that those that prosecute wars do so in the name of righteousness. It is not the lie that kills men. The lie makes it seem just for men to kill. The thing that makes mans inhumanity toward fellow man possible is that he tells himself that the other is not worthy of his humanity. We naturally uphold and defend those things we call ours or our own. This is the driving moral principle behind all life, to protect and extend the self. There is another propensity in the sentient man and that is that he find his good. This symbolically is gods likeness in man. In symbolic terms god created the world and saw that it was good. Mans conflict is between what he would ideally prefer and what he judges to be instead. Being created in the likeness and image of god man falsely accuses himself and is ashamed to be found in his birthday suit. If is not helpful to create a supernatural entity that contests for your mind. It is helpful to forgive the world your judgments or slander and ease your mind about everyone's condition. I would point out that prophecy and scripture are not the same word.
It is violent, I understand that. It was the actions that were taken to complete gods will. Those times are past us and jesus fulfilled the law. Here are a few more scriptures, interestingly this is inscribed on the U.N. Building. Isaiah 2:4 reads He will render judgment among the nations And set matters straight respecting many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares And their spears into pruning shears Nation will not lift up sword against nation Nor will they learn war anymore
God operates through humans, None of what He does is about showing off His power to do it, it is about the game He plays with us. He makes His move, and then we are expected to make ours. We must decide of our own free will what move to make. He will not do it for us. He will wait as long as He has to, since He literally has all the time in the world. I mean, if He were going to do everything Himself, why would He have ever invented us anyway?
your view of reality is that god created us to play some sort of game with us? ......weird. just weird.
The bible says that god searched the hearts. Of everyone and every inclination of the heart was bad except for noah and his family.
Not really. The game is integrity, loyalty and steadfastness. If God sees our every movement. He sees our heart and our true intentions and he blesses accordingly. It is wierd, life is wierd
Belief can thrive on despair (including violence). God does not thrive on violence. Well, maybe in a reversing way: once people are confronted with enough violence they become more open and care more for peace and good/God.
