Yes, but if the official reason is that it's because of it being a drug than it wouldn't make sense to also forbid hemp that doesn't flower.

 

Hemp used to be a common crop here...decades ago. Now you have to have a special permit or it has to be imported. But I think that's starting to change in some states.

 

Lot's of things in the US don't make any sense.

The USA was the country that wanted all countries to ban weed in early 20th century. Other countries had to do whatever the USA told them to do. And as far as I know, THE USA wanted weed to be banned in early 20th century because of the cotton production. Correct me if I am wrong about the cotton production.

 

It's an efficient crop too. One season of growing hemp can give you the same amount of paper as cutting down generations old trees.

 

I could be a little off on my numbers because it's been a while since I've refreshed my memory on the topic but I'm pretty sure you can get the same amount of pulp from 1/10th the number of acres and you can harvest that much twice a year. So how long does it take to grow 300 acres of trees for paper? You can get twice as much each year from 30 acres of hemp. Plus, hemp can be grown almost anywhere. Marginal ground is ok to use. And I would think it could practically replant itself with it's own seeds. We still have wild hemp growing in areas around here from way back when it was normal to plant hemp.

 

To be fair, that quote was in reference to synthetic marijuana, so it's not entirely off base

To be fair about my to be fair statement, they made no reference to their being a difference between synthetic and actual pot, it was listed as if it's a type of marijuana sub category

 

It's quid pro quo.( says captain obvious) I know a few farmers in the San Joaquin valley that have been agitating for years to grow hemp for all the reasons it makes sense to do so. The big boys--the REALLY big boys give money and support to those whose vote is for sale to protect their products from losing money. (surprise-surprise!) Otherwise,
why wouldn't ANY country use hemp as a valuable resource to replace dozens of current products in use? The usual scam.
