The purpose of this forum is to discuss anything we want to because we are all hip. This particular sub-section is about Hippies. I have no idea why you are not hip.
Who said I'm not hip? I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one. I used to be the hallucinogen kingpin of the tri-county area.
Okay, so now that you know the difference, it is as you stated. You are not a hippie but you consider yourself to be hip. Glad that's straight. Pretty simple in the end.
Sure those are a few of the stereotypes that could cause one to be labelled "hippie" or "redneck" but they are stereotypes and what is hippie in the mind of one person is "definately not hippie" in the mind of another person. You see man things are not black and white like that. It is all definitions people make about groups of people and definitions vary and don't really matter. Edit: In other words some people would say I'm a hippie because of some of my beliefs and ideas about the world and others would strongly disagree because I can be an angry aggressive motherfucker sometimes and I don't have long hair or talk about peace and love all day. I don't care either way. I am who I am.
But the definition that I think is more right-on is clued in to, tuned in to, in the know about, in touch with, up to speed with.
Well I find things that are "hip" today to be stupid. Such as hip hop music and rock music and all of it. I don't spend my time doing it. I don't like televised sports. I think Miley Cyrus is stupid. I don't watch television. I used to do drugs, but now I don't, nor do I drink alcohol. I am a fan of sex, though. Does that make me cool? I just wish I were better at it. I'm "okay," I just have to wait too long before going for round 2. I'm not the super-stud I once was.
Some people might call you a Hippie but I wouldn't call you a Hippie. The Hippie Movement occurred long before you were born.
Yes this is true. I wouldn't call myself a hippie either but some people I have met who are my age definitely remind me of what I've read about and seen on TV about the Hippie movement but I suppose you could just call them free-spirits, drifters or neohippes or something. IDK I feel like I'm battling a dictionary today definitions everywhere LOL but interesting stuff.
I know!; but if we don't use the commonly held definitions then it's all a debate of what each individual personally believes. What do they call the new wave of hippie imitators...hipsters?
I guess I'm just not a big fan of black and white definitions especially when talking about groups of people. I think the English language should be more fluid but thats just my opinion and can create confusion I know. Yeah its all about the "hipsters" these days but there are many "brands" of hipster, if you will, and truly its just another stereotype. I wouldn't say they're hippie imitators as much as imitators of a large number of subcultures. I can't define a hipster but I know one when I see one haha
Is it true that in the late 1960's, everyone listened to "All Along the Watchtower" by Jimi Hendrix all day long while they watched montages about the Vietnam War? Then a black guy would come up to you and scream at you and tell you not to be a racist?
