The work ethic compared to other countries is lacking, which I think has something to do with it.

There is definitely a dumbing down of the US population. If you were to go outside the country and visit foreign schools you would find that the middle schoolers are learning at our university level education. Could also be because of our advancement in technology. Technology is definitely a great thing, but also making us and our kids of the next generation lazier and lazier. The amount of computer power in our personal smartphones alone is far more stronger and powerful than an entire office in the 1980's. Why are we not advancing faster?? At the end of the day, it is no ones fault but our own. If we want to be smarter we must seek to be. The knowledge is out there but most people are filled with excuses

Well maybe not dumber, but yesterday I did watch the CNN coverage of the New York City Terrorist Attack thinking that this might all be a false flag operation.

I picture the US Government working in conjunction with Home Depot to provide them with hours of free advertising for their $19.00 dollar a day truck rental, while the government benefits by diverting attention away from the Russian investigation.

I don't think that investigation will get a lack of attention. Its not gone after this day. Maybe the general public talks and thinks more about that attack for a day, or perhaps two. Then goes back to the other stuff that's still going on, including said investigation. But a lot of people can divide their attention perfectly fine over multiple issues as well. Even on the same day :p

Been away for a while, so don't know if I posted this or not---"an ignorant populace is a compliant populace." Witness the last election and the statement of your illustrious president=" I love the uneducated." Devoss'll fix that up. Yup. Right on up.

Good question. With the technology we hold in the palms of our hands there is no reason to not be informed. All you have to do is look it up.
I think it's a combination of misinformation and people just don't give a shit anymore.

Yes, I agree with this statement. Many people stare at their phones all day long and just Google things. Google doesn't have all the information that we need to know.
Books are better resources. People just have grown lazy and I admit that I get lazy myself and when I catch myself slipping I try to change things.
If books end up becoming banned one day I think I'll be depressed. Not saying this will happen, but books have so much information in them. Back in High School I used to hate opening up the text books that were handed out. Now I simply see people pulling out their phones. It sort of depresses me...

Obsession with social media too, culture-wide. People purposely misspell words and think it’s hilarious or just abbreviate everything in texts and such so there isn’t any place for depth of thought, imo. Also, I don’t think there is an appreciation for intelligence as much as there is for someone’s appearance in the US, either. When the President of the US is banging porn stars, who can take the US seriously?

I think a lot of it has to do with overall health. The food isn't as nutritious and people don't use their bodies as much. The brain is just another organ.

we're asking ourselves and each other dumb questions instead of exploring the diversity of nature, reality and the universe.
this comes from a combination, mostly of watching television,
but also, gullible people being taught by 'religious' (mostly 'christian') leaders, to hate logic (and their own imaginations at the same time).

    Evolutionary Bullshit

    The slowly dawning awareness,
    Among the academic community,
Is they've been doing all the talking,
But, nobody has really been listening.
    Instead of humanity, becoming dumber,
    They memorize, whatever makes money,
Often ignoring, all the chattering academics,
When fake news can upset the stock markets.
Many insisting the sun revolves around the earth,
And, soundly rejecting, Darwin's theory of evolution,
Because, like academics, that's how they make a living!
Survival of the fittest, is about who memorizes better bullshit!
Darwin had it wrong for sex assumes you have already survived,
And, possibly, are a great deal more creative, than Darwin ever was!
Evolutionary bullshit, can be considered an emergent effect in physics,
When you finally identify, that you have been identifying nothing all along!
Whenever the lights might on, but nobody is home in modern day Babylon!
The mindless masses pointing fingers, at each other for all of their problems.

    "Why are we getting dumber?"
= "Some machine's going it for you,(1 min, 11 seconds in)

This thread is fake news, and yet folks keep providing anecdotal "evidence" for this unsubstantiated claim.

Our standards of real education are abysmal.
Students are allowed to add 2+2 on a calculator, think that the correct spelling of 'Mate' is 'M8' and are never taught correct grammar.
For the rest of it, just look it up on 'Google'. Never mind the fact that most of the rubbish is posted by people who are as ignorant as you are.
